Many of the tracks are going to be absolutely amazing. Here's our fearless man of camels crushing daisies on a steep slope.

Did Jorizen introduce himself yet?

How many other international riders apart from Antal?

Looks.like the Aussies won't make it.

From the people that I know;

The Italians are coming though ;)

Jonathan is as well, as is Simon.

It's not what you know and it's not who you know. It's what you know about who you know.

Tomorrow Gerry & I are doing a 562km road book setup by SteveD.  Loop from Bapsfontein up north somewhere.

Thanks for your labour of love bud. :thumleft:

I am so looking forward to a nice long day in the saddle following a route I have never seen before.

The idea is to keep the not-so-shiney side up and get to the finish in one piece.

Ja it was lekker. Never crashed which was good (My new years resolution! :laughing7:), but we had to divert the route as it had two locked gates. I did 660km and Gerry did 700 odd.

Gates are the bane of our rally lives. They are a fact of life in almost all of South Africa, and are proliferating depressingly fast to the north of us.

Now, if we could only think of a way to incorporate gates into the competitive flow of the race.

One possible way that I've been thinking about would be to insist that each competitor shall stay within some specified distance of the gate for at least some specified time, say 30 seconds, whether the gate has already been opened it or not. Each gate that should remain closed would be tulipped as such. Then everyone will have much the same disadvantage. So if you're riding alone you stop, get off and open the gate, ride through, stop, close it, see out the 30sec and ride on. So if you come to an open gate that should be closed it means that your mate opened it for you less than 30 seconds ago, and that you should close it. Because of the 30 second rule you'd lose no time relative to everyone else. Of course, you'd then have to have a timing device to add to the festoonery of the cockpit!

This would be a tiresome and tiring addition to the race, but it could make it fairer, and it would open much more of the country for racing.

Of course, if we had lots of money we'd have a race official manning every gate on the route, filling your water and offering encouragement.

These are my personal thoughts and not Alexander's.
