Ok, I'm also in. The Baja was so cool. :blob7: :blob5: :blob3:

I was rescued by Lofty and Andy660. Lofty's one solid meneer. Huge praise to those guys they are soldiers.   :hello2: :headbang:
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy

Lofty is my brother and he scares me with his 4x4 skills... :pot::thumleft: :thumleft:

i'm 100% behind Geel Kat's comment.

to be a sweeper/rescue vehicle is no joke... it is harder than racing the Amageza. Ask everyone that has been recovered in the past ...  :deal:

so i would suggest that if you want to comment on the recoveries come try it yourself and then give a comment on how to improve it.  :thumleft: :thumleft:

Alex has a big problem with recovery of stranded riders.

Where can I put my name down...? I've got a 4x4 and a bike trailer which can carry 3 bikes....I'll GLADLY come and do recoveries if I can get a t-shirt...Alex come in!

If you:

- Have a 4x4 you are not afraid to scratch or damage (i.e. you actually use it as a REAL 4x4)
- Can drive offroad without much of a struggle
- Know how to navigate using GPS and at times also a road book
- Can go for 48 hour stretches without sleep
- Prepared to be up first, eat last if at all and effectively miss the entire Amageza race because you are never in bivouac to catch up
- Can remain calm and friendly throughout this

Then please, please, please contact Alexander and volunteer for Amageza sweep and recovery, it is a HUGE amount of fun  :thumleft:

Sounds like an extreme challenge, but I won't even try to comment any further...

I'll contact Alex ;)  thanks Geel kat

Their extraction/recovery took 6 hours ! from the time they left DSP back to Port Nolloth with very little fuel left in Lofty,s modified Jeep.

Mooi so Lofty , jy's 'n kampioen ! Andy het na die tyd vir my gese dat dit was ongelooflik en nie kon glo dat Lofty dit deurgehaak het nie.

we communicated via e-mail - he knows who I am.

Not allowed to do Amageza unless I did Baja - Sort of got my back up a bit and I just thought, fuck it, not the end of the world. I'll concentrate my energies elsewhere.

A big ask, but I'd like to do a Roof before I hang up my boots  :thumleft:

its cos you are a duckwalking old toppie and had to be towed by a 250 in 2014.
and you finished it on a KLR , not good for Amageze reputation  :pot:
roof sounds like a nice challenge

You, clever dick, will be shot !! However, they may be a smidgen of truth in what you say ...............

Spent this weekend 'paddling' around Clarens doing the Madalas thing. To prove my superior navigational skills I 'left' my GPS in the hotel room and told those who weren't listening anyway, that winging it is the way to go. After daydreaming at riders briefing, looking at the local talent, we took off and it wasn't long before I got lost. In my dread of being left alone in the wilderness, with only men in blankets for company, I hastily followed someone who looked like he knew exactly what he was doing. THAT was a beeeeg mistake, turned out he knew exactly what he was doing and I ended up on the extreme route, made for those training for the Roof. Climbing a mountain, dragging a f^&*(%$##g motorbike with you is NOT fun - I would have killed for a tow, Mr. LoopSoosStroop.

The Roof WILL be a challenge - Rolling Stone - nice it WILL NOT be!!

Don't let fear hold you back ..... take it with you!

No no, not offended at all. I can understand that it can be a bEEg challenge...bikes goes where vehicles struggle so I can imagine. (and then there is a trailer involved) Obviously no-one wants to damage their vehicle intentionally, but I do use my 4x4 for one of its intended purposes and I am up for a challenge :)

I just meant I'm not going to comment any further and rather contact and discuss the idea with Alex, then I can make an informed decision ;)

Or is there someone who has done this previously who lives in Pretoria who I can meet up with and discuss?

Edit, seems my post was offensive, herewith my apology.

Eddie, I think you are closer to the truth than you think...

Wonder what would have happened if uncle Rob tried to enter on some 450 Rally bike?

Ek sal in elk geval daar wees as Mike se mechanic al ry ek nie.

Sien jou daar.
