690 Rally Fairing
« on: December 28, 2015, 08:19:28 am »
Hi All

Seriously looking at getting a 690... But I will not ride the bike without the awsome dakar style rally fairing... Any idea on cost and who can do it for me ? Does KTM self supply something like this ?

I use to own a xChallenge is the 690 a better bike ? Does it take the long roads better ?

Thanks guys & gals !

No idea what you would like to spend, but this in my opinion is by far the best option...

Same thing, harder suspension, more small issues.  IIRC the only problem with the XC is the wheel bearings?
They are the same on the open road unless modified

Thats one of the better looking kits I have seen, but damn that's pricey.

But probably still cheaper than buying a new bike locally with a kit like that on?
2012 Yamaha XT660z (Sold)
2007 KX250 2T (Sold)
2002 CR250 2T (Sold)
1998 CR125 2T (Sold)

The nice thing about the kit is that many of the parts are OEM. It would be worth asking for a price for the custom parts and then ordering the OEM parts direct from KTM.

Rally kits are expensive. Cheaper omega (that i dont like) is 38k, the better looking dakar replica is 55k. Rally raid will be the same or more with rand low - and it looks worse. The best and most pricy is probably 690 basil from switzerland. Economically the best option imo is that wait for low mileage second hand 690 with kit on. I have seen one with the better omega kit in rad recently.

Thinking of selling mine.

2012 model
Rally raid kit with front fuel tanks
Steering damper
Skid plate
Crash bars
Folding mirrors
12k km

Just not using it enough to warrant

R90000

Pic before crash bar, mirrors and change of tail end

Similar bikes but not the same.

My heart still yearns for a KTM 690 but that yearning quickly goes away when i think about the dealership experience and the issues seen. The issues can still be dealt with though as it's more of a preventative maintenance thing imho, although for the price of the bike you would think that you wont have to do it.

When i see a 690 in rally fairing though my heart beats a little faster.

I might still own one one day.  I reckon the BMX gets me 90% there with some work.

Speak to Nikluas at NL Designs he is in Woodstock, Cape Town . He does rally kits for a lot of different bikes. When I get the cash I will get mine from him. I have a safari tank now don't need much else besides the tower, lights and small fairing. I would seriously consider not getting the full fiber kit/fairing. My worry is trying to, and the cost of repair that after a put-down. I want to try custom mold my own polycarbonate screen, tint it and have only that. But this will only happen when I have the tower and lights. I already have one of those 3000lumen LED light bars for it

KTM 300 X-CW - 2012

Anyone know how much the KTM Cape Town rally kit costs?

I head the tank is a metal tank from Germany and the fairing is local...
