Rally Kit fuel tank repair
« on: January 11, 2016, 09:05:29 am »
I need some repairs done on my 690 fuel tanks. It's the KTM CT Rally Sport kit. Can you guys recommend someone? It cracked on the thin flat mounting bit pointed out in the pic below

With the manufacturer, I suspect, being in Italy I don't think it will be the easiest fix to arrange.

It may be worth speaking to Thomas from Omega Fiber as they produce similar kits.

I ordered the bike from KTM Cape Town and the kit is manufactured for them. Don't know who the manufacturers are

Thanks I know their product well but it's not a huge repair and was hoping to find someone who does sort of general plastic/composite repairs. I might even just use an epoxy because it's not badly damaged but it does have a slight fuel leak

Not sure what material that fairing is, but my fibreglass Rally Raid fairing got cracked in a crash and I had it repaired by these guys, very happy with their service:

I'm pretty sure these tanks (you've got the cheaper kit from KTM CT, right?) are fibreglass with a fuel resistant liner of some kind. Have you spoken to Sadiq or someone at KTM CT? Should be a fibreglass repair. The more expensive kit is the OEM KTM 450 Rally tanks which is a polyprop material and a different prospect altogether.

not being negative, but all repairs are a bitch once fuel gets into the joint ventures it permeates and causes kak with the repair 😎

If it's composite, speak to AMT Composites for advice. They supply composites for the aerospace industry, but also do over the counter sales and technical advice.
