The 6th edition of the Cape Endurance Rally will be held on Saturday March 5, 2016 and entries are now open.

"Endurance" in the title might be misleading to some.  The CER is like a treasure hunt on two wheels.  All participants receive a list of bonus locations with clear instructions for each location.  Each location has a point value aka bonus.  You can earn points by going to a location and perform whatever task is provided in the instructions (e.g. take a photograph or answer a question).  The instructions and tasks are NOT cryptic and are mostly of the type "what is written on the sign at <some place>" with instructions and GPS coordinates of where <some place> is - in other words, just something to prove that you were actually there.  You don't have to be smart at solving puzzles to do well.  There are two requirements to do well: you need to be able to figure out which subset of bonus locations that you can get to and get back from in the allotted time, will give you the greatest points total, and you have to be an efficient rider (note: efficient, not necessarily fast).

The bonus locations are spread out across the Western Cape and there are way more of them than what you can visit in the allotted time. Participants must therefore plan their ride carefully ahead of time and decide which ones to visit and which ones to skip.  The person with the most points at the end of the rally will be declared the winner

For 2016 there will be 2 distinctly different classes or categories.

1. Off Road which will be 10 hours duration and must include more dirt distance than tar
2. On Road which will be 8 hours and may include 20% dirt.

Entry detail and instructions are here.  Or head over to the rally web site main page.
