A nice pit stop on the Ouberg road
« on: February 01, 2016, 05:25:09 pm »
We got a invite from  a friend of a friend to a little sheep farm about 80km out of Montague on the Ouberg rd and took a ride out this last w/end. Leaving CT to go over Franshoek to the Scherpenheuwel rd to take us to Robertson it was pretty clear we were in for some hot weather-b4 Franshoek it was 30deg at 8h40 already. As we had this planned for last w/end and changed at no 99 due to weather not everybody could make the second run for this weekend and only 3 of us from CT and were to be joined by 4 of Montagues finest. Some roadworks on the Scherpenheuwel gravel kept us in check with a powder dust that gives freedom to to the front tyre. We ran into these two clowns as we tied the bags down in a shady spot- 5L of Langberg Stein was on the menu and these poor guys were broken already with squint eyes and missing eyeballs being the standard- unfortunately no good skills of camera man could not show the damages. Arriving at Montague at 'happyhoenerfontein' we met up with with the rest and set off onto Ouberg rd after lunch organised by the Chief kreef inspector.

Temp was going up slowly but surely and prettys soon we were in 36 to 40deg (time to take off the jerseys some would say) En route we stopped and topped up water where we were joined by Mike on his blits vinnige new 1290. We arrived on the farm after 4 and after a quick introduction to very nice people settled at the 12 sleep guest house. Two double beds and about 8 singles, two bathrooms and sorted kitchen with fridges  packed with ices and our braaipaks awaited us there. The nice old building was a perfect setting  looking down over the the farm from the lapa braai was a view and a half.

Thanks all for a magic weekend with wonderful hosts. What a beautiful venue. Bokveld (aka Kreefinspekteur) you did us proud, we will definately be back.

For Cameron it was his first ever off-road excursion, and it was not without incident. On the way back to Montagu Cameron decided the little Honda's wingmirrors were indeed playing havoc with the aerodynamics and performance, so he decided to remove them by going wide on a corner a finding a suitable ditch to do the deed. But, the little brave Honda and rider , although dusty and bruised soldiered on and both made it safely home.

Thanks all for your efforts and to Caroline for taking such good care of our stomachs!

Till the next time
Biker Baz!
Next to sex I love my Africa Twin the best!

We needed some cooling off and was taken a couple 100m up the road to a large  dam- no photos unfortunately. We came back started the fire and was able to purchase a few extra Zamaleks and kitchen extras from our fantastic hosts-it felt like the beer evaporated quicker than we could get it in the system. Bart & Boemi made the occasional turn to check if we were in need of anything. After a good Karroo lamb braai we had the Kreef inspector tell us some of his life experiences about Avis Camel rental in Egypt. The best one was viewing the 2 cousins traveling with a 5man can secured safely to bicycle carrier and at a stop and go when the men got thirsty instead of loosening this well tied load the one would lie down and the other would pick up and tilt the whole bicycle to aim the opening at friends mouth to share the precious liquid.

Land Rover parked was there driven down from Zambia and currently hold the fence up probably needs some fresh petrol and a jump and will be ready for the return trip. Loved the retired tractors and parts in the veld- just needed our resident photographer 'Eikeboom' to do justice. The next morning some medium rested riders got up - had some left over braai and said our  goodbyes to new friends ( they are also starting lamb packs deliveries to CT) We will definitely purchase some of these again and visit in due course- anysbergbs@prinsrivier.co.za- Boemie 028 5511154 -go check it out

Looks nice.

I saw you guys on Ouberg pass on Sunday. We wanted to go around Anysberg Nature Reserve. I checked out the weather and decided to rather go in the car.

When we got to Worcester at 17h30, it was still 40.
