Loverly Laia has competition this year, though potential suitors will be competing with her Husky......

It is going to be an epic Dakar! So many fast riders.

Honda: Barreda Bort, Benavides, Brabec, Goncalves.

Husky: Quintanilla, Sunderland.

KTM: Ramirez, Walkner, Price.

Yamaha: Botturi, Rodrigues, Beveren,

Sherco: Garcia.

Slovnaft: Svitko.

Name a wild card that is not on the list that you think can do a stage podium.  :thumleft:

Just some small corrections to this list maybe:

Kevin Benavides is out of the race, injured.

Sam Sunderland is a factory KTM rider, not on a Husky.

From Vinny:

t's all about the flag!!! Pula🇧🇼.
This flag has travelled to many a race with me and finally it's made it to Dakar.
Had a chance to see the bivouac, test the bike, pack kit bags and take it easy before the rush starts tomorrow.

Do not forget Gonk.

Oh please yes, I would be soooooo chuffed if he won. I don't mind orange, but it's time for another colour at the top of the podium.
Barreda seems to have chilled a bit, less balls-to-the-wall and more brain, but I am still pissed with him for not finishing last year.
My ideal podium:

Gonk
Price. He's not an alien yet, but he's damn good.

Let the race begin.  :thumleft:
Quintanilla, because I like the reliability of the Huskies and he's slippery quick.

And for the record he is not using the #2 he is entitled to but racing #17 - guess must be his lucky number for 2017!? :ricky:

I think we have to admit at this stage that Toby is indeed an alien...

Aliens take awhile to develop such a reputation - has the makings but not proven in the long term … yet  :alien: :alien: :alien:

Toby is definitely an alien.
1st year 3rd place
2nd year 1st place.
Outright speed I think he is the fastest of the lot and he has n head on his shoulders.
He knows when to go flat out and when to hang back.
2016 he won a stage while being first on the track. That is definitely alien.

Still not a fully grown alien, good start though. The title is awarded for sustained and consistent winning - read Mark Coma, Cyril Despres,Stéphane Peterhansel, Cyril Neveu 8)

Look he is my favourite to win, and he is a superb desert racer, do not get me wrong. It is just that he has only won one Dakar so far - I am sure there are more on the way.

So this is interesting: it seems the bikes will be carrying both the usual Iritrack plus a new device, the Smalltrack

"From reading the Dakar regs it seams that the bikes and quads have to have both systems (because we all know there is lots of space to spare on a bike :eek7) But the description from Marlink describes the Smalltrack as a more compact and alternate version of the Iritrack. From all the pictures it looks like everyone has at least the regular Iritrack.
This Smalltrack system seems to be new and was a revision to the Dakar regs but it's not clear if it is one or the other or both."
