Maybe I need my head read.
« on: March 24, 2016, 04:36:50 pm »
All my previous bikes, were in good condition and I tried to keep them that way. Since I sold my GS, I've been looking for a 2 stroke as I have never owned one, except for a Vespa in 1959.
Today I purchased a 1988 ( which turned out to be a 1983 ) Suzuki ER 250 which was advertised on Gumtree, with 1440 kms     (genuine) on the clock, in Albertinia. I am the second owner.
On this forum it would be a project bike, as it looks its age, But I am not a project person,  (especially at my age) ((excuse)) the bike will be cleaned up re-registered (I have a copy paper of purchase and the original deregistration) roadworthy'd and ridden. It starts first kick on choke. As it was pissing, I could only ride it in 1st 2nd and 3rd on the farm. Not even sure how many gears it has. Battery is dead, no lights work, but it started 6 times on the first kick and runs. I still have to collect the bike, so no fotos as yet. Its under Eden on Gumtree.

What I need to know, from the WD 2 smoke gurus is, why is there no ER 250 specs on Google . They only show the TS.
Plus, what needs to be done and where do I start. ??? ??? ???  HELP!!!

Identical, same colour as well. I thought the ER was the model. He has lost the original booklet etc.

Should I, flush the whole system, petrol, oil, gear oil ? Damn, I'm dying to fetch the bike. Just need to organise a trailer.

I finally collected my plaasbike on Wednesday. Got a 3 day temp licence on Thursday, took it for Datadot  same day (which is compulsory R290) and police clearance today which was rejected, due to the original licence stating that the chassis number was unknown. In 1983, they probably didn't give a toss, as they couldn't find it. The police had to take numerous fotos and are e-mailing them to Pretoria.

They say that within a week, I will have the new computer reference number. Only then, I can have it roadworthy'd.

After buying a new battery, the headlight works on bright and dim. (only while the engine is running) Left indicators flash, but on the right side only one lights up. No tail light, but brake light works. Neutral light and bright beam also dead.

Hope I can find a sparky to sort it out.

It starts easy on choke when cold and forks off when you twist its ear. Fotos to follow.

Not sure why my previous answers did not go through. Maybe computer illiterate.

:eek7: :o
Oh well ek neem aan as die seun ek was sou die bike nie so gelyk het nie!!! :imaposer:
Jou luck. Hoop jy kan hom bietjie optouch.
Paar jaar terug in Springbok se hoofstraat tydens blommeseisoen ry ek agter so n bike met handgemaakte softluggage. Weet nounog nie of die eienaar of die bike die gehawendste gelyk het nie. So n regte Jopie Adam karakter.
