A weekend of up's and downs.

Saturday was Mrs Zog's birthday. I woke her up with coffee, roses, and a small gift.

Then I showered and went off to work. Spent too many hours working in the hot sun fixing a roof and putting new screens in a porch. Humidity was very high, and I was permanently so wet it looked like I had been swimming in my clothes.

Then eventually home, a shower, and took Mrs Zog to dinner at a real Mexican restaurant. Not Taco Bell, a REAL Mexican restaurant. My first time at a real Mexican restaurant...

O.M.G.  :drif: :drif: :drif: :drif: :drif: :drif: :drif: :drif: :drif:

Some of the best food I have eaten in a LONG time... and the bill was surprisingly low too. Just a tad more than we would have spent at Taco Bell... brilliant value and awesome food.... I ate WAY too much.  :snorting:

Early this morning I got the call I was dreading.

My step-mom died this morning. Peacefully, in her sleep, with my dad sitting next to her bed. Her pain is over. She never deserved to suffer like that. My dad is hurting bad. I wish I could just put my arm around him and comfort him...   :'( :'( :'(

I spent the day at home, doing odd jobs around the house. Digging a trench for a drain line to the ditch out front, and putting the drain line in. Weed-eating and mowing. Power-washing the porch and clearing it out. A few small jobs in the shed...

Then a braai for supper. Just a few sausages and two very small steaks. Some fresh Cuban bread, and some roasted veggies. Nice...

Now going to catch up on the paperwork for work, then bed.

Weekend done...

Being away from the people you love is probably the hardest part of starting anew, especially in times when family members pass and you simply cannot be there. Your resilience is a huge motivation for us, Gary, even though you must be hurting a lot. You guys are in our thoughts. Strengths over there.

Glad you discovered the Real Mexican food vs franchise stuff.

Sounds like Mrs Z had a great day overall.  Here's to another good year ahead for her too.

As for your step mum, you know my view on death and loss, Celebrate her life and all she meant to all of you.

As you say, the suffering is over, and I hope your dad can find solace and that the hurt turns to good memories soon.

Hope you have a good week Gary.

Thanks for all the wishes guys & girls. Muchly appreciated.

I got a Whatsapp message from Dad today, he wasn't holding up. So I called him and we chatted for a while. They would have been married 24 years next month, that is a lifetime for some.

He was doing a bit better when I rang off, but I'm heartbroken for the Old Man. I can only imagine how I would feel if I lost Mrs Zog...

Hang in there Dad, one day at a time...  :'(

My Dad buried my step-mom today.

I can't imagine the hurt he is feeling right now...  :'(

My Grandfather had a heart attack last week, spent a week in ICU. The Doc says they can't do a stent because the artery is too calcified and will tear. So my grandfather asked to be sent home where he can be comfortable in his own bed.

I'm having a hard time keeping a smile on my face right now.

Time for bed.
