The news footage coming out of the Bahamas is horrific. Massive destruction. Just awful.

As Mrs Zog said, we are now all hunkered down.

The hurricane shutters are up on the Florida Room, the Bahama shutters are down over all the windows, and the workshop is all closed up and secured too.

The outside picnic table is too heavy to carry inside, so I just flipped it over and stashed it in the corner. Should be fine there. Pot plants are all in the garage, as are the trash cans.

And now we wait...  :sip:

Some pics from today's prep, from both Mrs Zog and I, so if there are duplicates, eish, sorry.

We expect the worst of the winds to hit us around this time tomorrow.

Right now it almost looks like the hurricane may be looking to turn... the eye disappeared for a while, apparently this could be a good thing.  :sip:

It's going to be a long wait...  ::)

I'll take the van back to the shop tonight and get my bakkie, then no more call outs until it's over.

According to the weather geeks on TV, this is called the "eyewall replacement cycle":

Eyewall replacement cycles, also called concentric eyewall cycles, naturally occur in intense tropical cyclones, generally with winds greater than 185 km/h (115 mph), or major hurricanes (Category 3 or above). When tropical cyclones reach this intensity, and the eyewall contracts or is already sufficiently small, some of the outer rainbands may strengthen and organize into a ring of thunderstorms—an outer eyewall—that slowly moves inward and robs the inner eyewall of its needed moisture and angular momentum. Since the strongest winds are in a cyclone's eyewall, the tropical cyclone usually weakens during this phase, as the inner wall is "choked" by the outer wall. Eventually the outer eyewall replaces the inner one completely, and the storm may re-intensify.

The Apocalypse.

It's coming.

The outer bands of the hurricane are reaching us now. Strong winds, squalls, rain coming in sideways. Then quieter periods. Then it all happens again, only with more ferocity. The dogs are getting restless... they need to go outside to toilet on the grass. As soon as the next clear space opens up.

The porta-potties at the construction site behind us already fell over. I hope they were somewhat empty. As my friend just put it: "That's a shitstorm."  :imaposer:

We're in this with you guys...!

I'm glad you've got the storm protection up.
It does make it rather claustrophobic - more so than steel security gates, palisade fences with electric fences on top as in ZA.
I hope too that the shed with all your tools makes it through okay.
You have scored so much over the years that it would be sad if you had to start all over again.

Then again it is only stuff !  :sip:
