David Ellis - WCOC 2015 Off-road Open champ must see vid

Great Clip David Ellis filmed by brother Michael Ellis

https://youtu.be/A02x7JArd_s

Published on Mar 30, 2016

The place where you grow up, ends up shaping your passion.

Western Province Off-Road Open Class Champion, David Ellis, cut his teeth among the mountains of Namaqualand.

Fast tracks littered with lurkers and hidden rocks became second nature to him.

The throttle has one position, pinned, flat out.

It sounds easy twisting a piece of plastic around an aluminium bar, but to keep it completely twisted while your mind fights against it takes balls of brass. At any stage an object could wipe you out and only announce it's presence once you recover from the crash.

His approach towards riding has been coined, "The Hooligan Style", but every move and adjustment he makes is done with careful judgement.

This is Home Ground. A place where the dust never settles.

Directed, filmed & edited by Michael Ellis

Bliskem that was fun to watch - so nice to see this kind of talent in South Africa too.

But to be fair he has done that route before, you can see the line in the track in front of him.

Wish I had that skill and balls.

I might be mistaken but it seems as the vid is 'slightly' sped up for drama.

For sure David has pre-run these routes, it is after all his Home Ground  ;D But then again, so has everybody else making video clips like this e.g. Toby Price.
This however in no way distracts from Davidís talent as a motorbike racers, especially when it comes to speed & wide open spaces. He's pretty quick on a road bike as well.

Anybody who has raced against this humble guy with attest to his ability at reading terrain and outright speed, itís simply a phenomenal sight to behold.Heís also a bright boy, if Iím not mistaken, heís currently doing his Masters in Mech Eng at Maties.

Looking forward to seeing him fly the SA Flag at the Dakar one day  :thumleft:

Agree, you can run that route a 1000 times and still not be nearly that quick.

Agreed Brett - David is always fast, seems to thrive in any terrain and loves a challenge. It is very exciting to watch the battles on the front row as they start six in a row at our Off- road races and at the last race only 40 seconds separated the first three after 3.5 hours racing on 55km loop none had been on before. One of which (Calvin) ran out of fuel and you kindly helped.
David not only won the 2015 open championship, he also received the Sportsman of the year award and is an outstanding example to fellow competitors.
A top competitor amongst a very competitive group up front.
