Donkey Pass

Unfortunately no bikes or quads are allowed up this pass, mainly as it falls within a nature reserve, but if you have access to a 4x4, this one makes for a wonderful outing, which is suitable for the whole family and is a visual treat. It is doable in a single day from Gauteng and is located close to Harrismith in the Free State. Your vehicle must have low range to cope with the incredibly steep gradients, even thought the road is paved and concreted. Views from the summit are sensational.
