Thanks from this newbie, who got the chance to meet some of you and also take my bike on dirt the first time.

Special thanks to Blazes for putting the day together, and all of you who gave important advice during the ride (switch ABS off, use the back brake rather than the front, rise your center of gravity by standing up, etc..). If I only had know these when we were trying to catch up with the bigger group and hit the first parts of the gravel...
Nice to have had you along on the ride ;) They told you to turn your ABS Off ??? Ah well lets not go there ;D

Looks like this Gauteng Newbie Ride had a fantastic turnout of bikes 8)

Some amazing photos taken as well.... really like the forest pic's ;)

Glad you got ur new bike Malibu - you look good on it
I Think Malibu got more looks from the guy's than her bike did. ::)

As long as that was not because I was trying to look as though I knew what I was doing and failing miserably...
Can't wait for the Ladies Dirt Course....   :D

rise your center of gravity by standing up, etc..).

you actually lower your C of G by standing as you place your weight at the pegs rather than the seat (sitting).

you will have a lot more control of the bike while standing because the bike able to move under you, without upsetting your stance. you must allow the bike to move,

In tuns (like long fast sweeps - not tight turns) and up steep hills etc but keep your (body) over the center of the bike, i.e . open your knees and lean the bike while remaining "staight up" over the bike

Standing is alway faster than sitting, except during a tight turn, where you want your weight forward and your upper body in an attack position

Maybe i am just the exception to the rule ??? But i would rather sit at 145km ph going through a turn than stand ;) The wind wants to blow me off standing ???I am a instructor's nightmare. I ride very unorthodox But Hell it work's for me. To each his own. I have taken what work's for me in all my years of racing and use that. ::)

I rarely stand as well. Too lazy.

Works for me.

But. I don't go 145km/h through a corner!

You should corner quicker sitting anyway.
See what Chad Reed does on a corner.

I agree with you, in a turn you need to bee seated to stop the front wheel washing.

WRONG, you raise your centre of gravity by standing! This is a common misconception. Where do you think all your body mass has gone? It hasn't gone down, it's gone higher into the air.

Yup - It goes up, but up is good ! It makes you fall over more slowly, and gives you time to react. And also by standing you can control the bike with the feet, which is hard with your butt.
Retired from Adventure Riding.

Ryperd are you really wanting a 1200ADV that much you had to fit the spot lights? If it's not bad enough that the 1200ADV clan always run their high beam, low beam, spots, candles, zenon helmet light, the moment they turn on the bike.  >:D :imaposer:

Yes. I must add my thanks too for organizing a great ride.
Thanks to Blazes for organizing the ride.
Thanks to Ryperd for sweeping.
Thanks to Gunda for treating the snakebite.
And thanks to Malibu that I wasn't the only one showing off a new 800 GS.
My first time out with the WDs and only 2nd time on dirt. My jacket doesn't look so clean anymore!
It seems I posted my pics from the run in the Ride Planning section instead of here. So here's the link anyways http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=19099.100.

See y'all at the next ride! :thumright:
