The Lost Valley

This week our news page features the tandem passes of Tintwa and Middledale which give access to Geluksburg - one of the tiniest hamlets in KZN. These two passes provide not only an incredibly scenic ride through the northern Drakensberg, but give access to the fabled Lost Valley where the De Heer and Pieterse families lived in complete isolation for a very long time. A journalist covered their story about 15 years ago in a sensationalist, tabloid style expose, which was not only lacking in facts and accuracy, but dehumanised the farming families at the time.
