The 2 KTM's vs 2 BMW's Baviaans trip
« on: June 23, 2008, 08:41:29 pm »
So we decided to the the Baviaanskloof thing again.

And we were four, 2 on KTM‚??s and 2 on BMW‚??s.

Yellowfever- 1200GS
Greg ‚?? KTM 990 ADV S
Mellowyellow ‚?? 1150GS
Atgatt_101 ‚?? KTM 950 ADV S (aka the naughty boy)

Not in the mood for many words this time round, hope the pics tell the story:

DAY 1 ‚?? CT to Prins Albert

So we left early on Thursday, Atgatt_101 came from Jo‚??burg and we met him in Prins Albert later that day. The bikes nice and clean:

First turn off onto gravel. From Montagu to Ladismith via the Ouberg pass:

At this stage we got a bit concerned as we were in mud straight away:

But it luckily didn‚??t last long and soon me and my girlfriend had some serious fun:

Greg on the gravel road between Calitzdorp and Swartberg pass, this was a great route:

Me:

Having a quick chat:

We had to wait a few moments at the turn off for Atgatt to arrive from Joburg:

Extreme high winds up the pass resulted in this view:

Going up and over Swartberg pass:

Atgatt took a tumble here somewhere in a drainage channel. No pics of that unfortunately. Here he comes all smiles (photo by Johan):

DAY 2 ‚?? Prins Albert to Makedaat grotte, Baviaans

Die 4 filistyne, from left, johan, greg, le roux and andrew (that‚??s me):

Our four trusty steeds:

Going on the dirt back over Swartberg Atgatt flew past me while I was doing 130, he was trying to do a Jabu but only reached 193km/h, maybe nest time hey. Heres eerste water:

Beautiful:

The lekker life:

Top of Swartberg:

At the bottom of Swartberg we turned left onto the Oude Muragie road towards De Rust:

The Raubenheimer Dam:

In De Rust it became clear that something was missing, so we ordered in:

From there we road towards Dysselsdorp and onto the Kamanasie Road. Looks like Die Hel:

My helmet cam:

OK, its was not a helmet cam, lekker deur die k@k:

Gooi hom bokkie gooi hom (photo by mellow):

Atgatt on Kamanasie:

Greg:

Filling up in Uniondale:

Dawid se bak at Makkedaat:

Lekker moeg after a long days gravel:

Clearly I‚??m the only angel around, to the right:

After a few bears and whiskey Atgatt morphed into this:

DAY 4 ‚?? Jeffreys to Mosselbay:

Early morning from our flat, we sadly had to say good bye to Atgatt as he was on his merry way back to Joburg. Thanks Le Roux, it was great riding with you:

Nature‚??s Valley:

Washed away roads, we love the ‚??Closed Road‚?Ě signs:

Seven passes road through Karatera on our way to George:

Only three musketeers now:

We were invited by Trailrider to go ride up in the mountains above George. It was a cherry on top of a already superb weekend, thanks Trailrider:

Trailrider and Trailrider junior:

Mellow looking for his precious in the woods:

And he found it eventually:

That‚??s me gooi-ing mielies (photo by mellow)

DAY 5 ‚?? Mosselbay to CT:

We knew that this was going to be a wet day and it didn‚??t disappoint, therefore no real great pics. The road to Gouritzmond:

At the Malgas pont:

Me again (photo by mellow):

Malgas hotel:

140 on gravel in the rain, and still taking a pic? (photo by mellow)

One dirty happy GS back home:

Thanks to my riding buddies for a great weekend.

So now you obviously want to know who won the battle. Easy answer.

BMW‚??s
Me = 3 spills  :ricky:  :ricky:
Mellow = 1 spill
Total = 4 spills

KTM‚??s
Greg = 2 spills
Atgatt = 1 spill
Total = 3 spills

So there you go, we won by one prang.  :pot:  :pot:  :pot:
