I'm starting to prep for a 10 day ride from Joeys to Eastern & Western Cape.  I'll be doing +- 50% on road and 50% off road with some "serious" dirt mountain passes.

I'm looking for a tyre that can deliver a decent mileage and a good all rounder for high speed highway riding + twisties and then of course for the dirt ie: Bastervoetslaan Pass and Volunteers Hoek Pass etc.

If anyone has fitted the K60 please advise or if you have a better suggestion then I'm all ears.

Thanks    :ricky:

A local club member fitted them to his K51 GSA. We did a gravel only trip of about 600km to this year's GS Trophy  which included some gnarly stretches. At the GS Trophy he completed both red routes with ease and had no issues with grip on rough sections. He had 8000km on the set at the time.

Hope it helps

EDIT: with that kind of milage, I will be fitting a set when my rubber is up for replacement

I have fitted them just before our Namibian trip 2 months ago and I was very happy with the performance, over 5000km of which 50% was dirt some serious gravel and sand.

Quite a hard compound and a rather wide centre strip on the 150.

Works well enough of tar, make sure you know its limits on wet tar.

Gives good mileage.

Not my first choice for a big bike.

Something to think about...
When you complain, you make yourself a victim. Leave the situation, change the situation, or accept your it. All else is madness.

OK, I only have a KLR, but when I phoned for a quotation last week for a new set of takkies, the dealer told me I will get a lot more mileage on the K60 Scout than I got on my Mitas (13000 km), although the Scouts are more expensive.

So I guess my next set of tyres will be Heidi K60 Scouts

Only problem I had with them is that it is very difficult to break and set the bead, also replacing them with regular (medium) tyre levers are a pain...even more than the Mitas E-09

It's like the LR Defender of DS tyres....not high performance however gets the job done in all conditions reliably. Very popular with overlanders & people doing Namibia..
