It's probably not what you think! Our statistics are based on the number of fatalities, collisions and injuries. Take a normal big pass and engineer the best possible standards into its design and then come all the wild card items - like rain, hail, snow, ice, wind, mist, heavy traffic, very slow traffic, fast traffic, impatient motorists, unroadworthy vehicles, overloaded trucks, unlicensed and stupid drivers and suddenly the whole ball-game changes.
Our Jhb based video crew went to film the scenic, but dangerous Van Reenen's pass a few weeks ago, and we have just published the new video clip. Most of you would no doubt rather go down the escarpment via one of several gravel options, but Van Reenen's Pass does have a chequered and fascinating history and if you've never bothered stopping in the village, there are a number of very interesting places to visit.
