There's nothing nice in thinking that I may only have another 30 years, that's no time at all.

After all, I'm only 72 so the thought of a mere 30 more years of riding is a bummer that I don't even want to think about.  :ricky:

Subie, you are 56. I have just done 3 days of pretty hardcore (for DS bike) riding in Swaziland, with two guys your age: http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=196404.0.

And they did just fine - and they have no racing history as far as I know. So where is the problem? I am pretty sure it is much more about personnal attitude than about physical age.

The problem is the statement "getting old just looks like fun" which is over the top short sighted. Nothing to do with old people riding bikes or whatever old people do to have fun.
Getting old is just crap and if you are having more fun when you are old than when you were young then you have wasted your youth.

Then I wasted my youth and couldn't care less. I was probably just insecure little f@ck, but nowadays I know what I want and like, don't give much crap about what other peopl think and hence I am looking forward what's still in stock for me. And I'd much rather be in that position, than live bitterly off the memories of distant youth.

Good for you. Pity you wasted your youth  though.  If you had a lot of fun in your youth why would you assume they would have just been bitter memories later in your fifties  ???
Fun times are always good memories,no matter how long ago.

Age is in the head, so they say and to a certain extent I can relate, did my last enduro race at the age of 56, admittedly in the veterans club class then stopped 3yrs ago when I got lung cancer.
Huge respect for this guy still on a plastic at his age as a lot of people do not realize the energy it takes to ride a plastic.
If You're going through hell, keep going.

Thanks Martin, what a great video!

Loved the "get on riding or get on with dying" quote  ;D O0

For older fart like me, its great to see this attitude, in guys even older.

One thing that strikes me about motorcycles is that it somehow gets into your blood. And once its in, its doesn't go away.

My constant wish is that I could ride better - that hasn't changed since I was a teenager. And the only way to accomplish that is time on the bike, in challenging terrain with riders better than myself.
