So this morning I shoot off to go and see Oz from www.xfactorsport.co.za.
Had a nice chat, he took some photos for his records and issued me with an assessment letter.

Thank you kind sir. Really nice of you to spend time and do this for met.

Then to the tent place to see if they could make a cover for the sidecar.... No luck.

Then off to Dekra Boksburg. There Louis sorted me out.
Could not find anything wron with the setup and the RWC was issued.

THEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Off to the local licencing department.

Gave all the forms in as requested, plus a new purple one I had to fill in indicating the changes.
Waited for my little number to go an sit down and be called...... NO SIR we will phone you.... I see a new system ! Well done.

No sir we will phone you when paperwork is ready.
So I sit and wait for the phone calle here in the hall.

No sir go home, we will phone you..... maybe 6 months. WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nou fokken wag ons maar.

Nou hoor ek dit is n heel wetlike storie....wonder of die lisensie koste dalk bietjie duurder gemaak kan word want daai ekstra wiel gaan mos die paaie beskadig

Glo nie. Volgens my is daar maar EEN gewig vir groot bikes. Ek het nie gesien dat hy hom verander het op RWC nie.
Hy is ook nie geweeg nie. Kyk maar op jou papiere dink hulle is almal op 470 kg Tare.

From day one I wanted this sidecar to be the best of both worlds and this weekend it happened.
I want it to swivel under normal riding conditions.
But in sandy and mud situation I want it to be a SOLID rig.

I also added some extra strength on certain points.... sorry that is my trade secret... and the first of two solid arms to make it a FIXED rig.
Will have to design and laser cut a piece to bolt onto the sub frame between passenger and drivers legs to attach the back solid bar.

Turned the front solid bar (left had thread on one side and RH thread on other side) to give me about 1.5 degrees lean.
Today I need to buy more Left Hand thread nuts for the back bar.

Took it out for a spin.

Some left hand turns and some right hand turns and down the road at a reasonable speed. Not bad handling at all. Need some weight in the sidecar for the LEFT turns, but otherwise very happy for a start.

Now some toe-in and lean fine tuning and away we go.

Ek stem, Ek het nou al 'n paar keer by die plaaslike Natis prober om die lisensie te laat verander. Almal krap net kop en weet nie mooi wat om te se nie. Blykbaar 'n vreemde situasie vir hulle. Ek was intussen deur 'n paar roadblocks waar die polisie so beindruk is met die rig dat hulle nie rerig worry oor wat die lisensie se nie. Was maar bekommerd toe een vir omtrent vyf minute na die lisensie staar maar net mooi niks se daaroor nie. Kon seker nie die skrif mooi verstaan nie. Was meer geintereseerd om saam te ry as iets anders. Die feit dat ek sy bakkie se papwiel vir hom reggemaak en opgepomp het het dalk ook gehelp.

Ek se ry die rig en verduidelik later!!

Loaded the OLD BAG on the pillion seat. Checked where I can make a fitting for the back bar between sidecar and bike.

There is a triangular spot in the right place, so now to make a fitting to fit there.

Took a plain A4 sheet of paper and rubbed it against the 3 bolt heads.
Got these measurements in a CAD drawing.
Cut a 3mm mdf template to check the fit.
Little bit out here and there. Adjusted the DXF file and did another cut.

PERFECT !!

Seems that the big laser cutting companies is not interested in once off small jobs.... I understand it because your setup time costs money.

So I popped into my steel supplier and got a 5mm thick plate 200 x 200 mm steel.

Between afternoon coffee and 18h00 supper I managed to make make the plate myself.

Used my big woodworking CNC to mark the holes and mark the outline of the profile.

Then with a baby grinder an 1mm cutting disk I shaped the profile.

Little bit of sanding on the belt sander, drilled the holes to size and done.

Cost of plate R 28.00.

Now to fit it and make the back turnbuckle coupler.
