Time for an update:

The sidecar is back on the bike.
The hub lost a few kg and it is definitely better.

Now I am toying with the idea of trying TORSION Suspension.

In our beloved country I cannot find an adjustable half axle torsion system.  They can do different angles, but I want the freedom to change as I need it.

So brainstorming by myself I thought of making my own. Either using a CV Joint parts or a PTO shaft from a tractor.

So my question to the wild dog brains is: If I take the PTO shaft. Put it inside a Square tubing and fill it with a castable rubber mix....will it work.. I think it depends on the TYPE / Hardness of the casting rubber / polyurethane.

Please help me out on this one.

Hi Kobus

Het jy al Burquip probeer? Kan hulle nie help nie?

Ek onthou lank lank gelede (amper soos 'n slaaptyd storie  :) ) was Rubax die mense wat die aste gebou het.

EDIT:

Ek sien AL-KO maak hulle ook...

Doubt casting would be strong enough. Don't know the products though. Would like to hear if there is something that is suitable.

Could you machine a rubber block into the correct part?

Thanks for the feedback.
I think casting the gaps between the square tubing and the hex shaft will be stronger than inserting loose pieces of rubber. That is if you use the correct hardness polyurethane / rubber mix.

So this is my question...What type of polyurethane / rubber compound mix will be the best?

Well sometimes you must listen to yourself :

"I realized that Jonas must be approached differently.  So I tell Jonas that we will not know if we do not try.
I also tells him that HE as Mr Jonas will make history today here in Boksburg if we get it right."

I think casting the gaps between the square tubing and the hex shaft will be stronger than inserting loose pieces of rubber. That is if you use the correct hardness polyurethane / rubber mix.

Yes it will be if you can get the right stuff.  And the question is what is the right stuff and where to get it. Subbed to hear if the WD knowledge database has the answer.

PS  We used similar torsion units for anti vibration mountings.  They bought it somewhere but it was just two square tubes with the inner tubed turned 45° and the gaps filled with rubber.
The advantage was that they could do an interference fit and effectively compress the rubber and the rubber pieces were simple triangular pieces.

The squares turned 45 degrees is how most of them are made.  I can still go this way.
the on issue is then to have the square inner bar machined with some sort of splines or hex shape for me to be able to do an adjustable setup where I can change the angle.
Still an option.

Another option is to take an old CV joint.  It has splines and the spline female that I can modify to clamp at different angles to the shaft.
Problem here is that the shaft is round.  But maybe I can weld some square bars on the shaft where the rubbers will push against.

:thumleft:

Die bakkie het twee torsion bars voor. As jy een gebruik met sy spanning heel laag gestel kan dit dalk werk.

I usually do not take my lunch time off.  But today I popped around to our local scrap dealer.  What a joy.  You are allowed to wander around on your own looking at all the scrap.  I love it.  Picked up a complete CV joint shaft and two splined ends for R 20.00
