Any other local WDs going to give this a bash? Clives changed the setup in that a GPS is no longer a necessity to complete the event, all the corners will be marked. This is primarily to avoid damage to the little vegetation that exists in that area with riders taking corners wide etc.

Ive very keen to give it a go on the 690. Not going to race to place but rather just enjoy the opportunity of riding in a beautiful & unique part of the country  :thumleft:

Thanks Brett  - Started this with a long term plan, engaging with the farmers, sjoe.... it takes a long time BUT they are GOOD People ! Cornie Taljaardt (Chairman of Tankwa/Hantam farmers union) with whom it has been amazing to work with. He too is working on the buy in of landowners for next year so we will have lots of distance aiming to start at Tankwa Tented Camp thanks to Henk Van Niekerk. For now we have great tracks, we are putting up 4 x donkey showers this weekend. Cornie has also put in two more showers in the old house (we supplied a donkey for that - thanks Anton vd Berg, haha will see if mine work this weekend).

We hope to enforce the GPS  next year by pulling more direct routes.

In future the renovation of the house will provide an ideal stop over for DS BIKES too, ideally situated between Calvinia, Wuppetal, Tankwa, Middelpos & Sutherland.

I must add that it has been an absolute pleasure dealing with the Northern Cape Local authorities SAPS, Traffic & Disaster Management - all sorted thanks !!!

Please support & help get this off the ground - Adventure/DS bikers come spectate/camp for the weekend R100? camping fees go towards farmers renovations & campsite. We are donating the showers & equipment that they can use going forward..... lets look after our riding future.

Enjoy

Thanks for the feedback Clive, I like the idea of a long term plan with the farmers and possibly additional dual sport places to be able to camp over at  :thumleft: Just a pity this race date is so close to the start of the Amageza otherwise I'm sure we would have had a few of the Rally guys keen as well.

Could you please confirm if the link to the online entries is working from the clubs web page? At work I get a firewall message and from home on my iPad it just times out on that link. thanks  :thumleft:

Hi Brett

Agreed with dates however somehow Amageza were not in the annual clubs meeting when we planned and submitted dates in August last year for 2016 - like we have just done again for 2017.  We try take to all Nationals & Roof dates into account etc...

Try refresh your wcoc page or this link

Tankwa X Country update
FB Pictures show Race Camp progress with showers near completion and two showers with toilets functional in main building. Huge thanks to Anton vd Berg, Cornie Taljaardt, Louis & Renaldo Van Wyk and the team of helpers!

Important for 2016 you will NOT require a GPS (optional) as there are areas we have had to mark to prevent riding on grazing or eco sensitive areas. We cannot have lost competitors randomly riding across fields after a wrong turn or lost visibility of tracks (some sections are marked pulling the lines). It is of utmost importance to stay on the routes, which consist of tracks & river beds or where it is peg marked across fields linking routes. Deceptive dangers are marked with triple stickers.

Tracks are arguably of the best we have set to date, with an amazing amount of diversity, if we look after it, 2017 could see the distances more than double starting near De Mond trans Tankwa to current venue where a GPS would be necessary. Competitors are in for a real treat starting with an optional Time Trial on Friday afternoon.
The TT starts out in a thorn river bed, over sweeping canals before heading up into the western mountains with several ravine and mountain sections.

Saturday will be at early start 20km away on race section A. Service crews will have drop competitors with bikes before 7:30 and evacuate back to Race control (RC) or spectator points. (impound closes at 7:30 & no vehicle will be allowed to enter road leading to start impound after 7:15). Long range bikes may ride to start.
Race section A -+ 60km of unique terrain some twisty veld, hill climb, pan, sweeping tracks, a flat out section and river bed before returning to RC. Compulsory 30 min Decontrol.

Race section B -+110km. Again varied terrain -+ 55km to outside DSP (Designated Service/ Refuel Point). This is also a Spectator and Service point where crews an assist their competitors (+-15km via road). Light catering will be available at this point. Heading back to RC for -+50km the route will include the TT section.

Sunday Race Section C -+110km will be a repeat of Race section B however starting at RC. It was envisaged to run Sec A in reverse however it is not possible due to the sections that are already marked which could lead to confusion. Competitors will enjoy it even more a 2nd time around.
Racing could be concluded by lunch time with prize giving there is also a Rally class.
Entries are Open follow link from www.westerncapeoffroad.co.za

Service crews & supporters will also enjoy the Tankwa camping/adventure experience.
Catering and Bar at Race Camp. Competitors get a complimentary Braai pack for Sat evening. Braai packs with salad & rooster bread R80, Dry fire wood. Please also support Caterers at the outside DSP.
Camping R100 for weekend REAL BARGAIN !

To try and describe the semi-desert beauty and tranquility of the Tankwa Karoo is not really possible, and even the photographs do not do it justice. One needs to leave the city behind and just go and immerse oneself in everything the Tankwa Karoo has got to offer.
Please send an email giving an indication of who will be attending as caterers would like to plan?
 info@westerncapeoffroa.co.za

Please we need entries & supporters to get this off the ground, to race in another Unique Place.
