Price for a DR650 these days??
« on: September 17, 2016, 04:00:41 pm »
Am wondering what do people pay for the DR650 these days. There is a 2012 model that has only 12700kms on the clock. Bike is completly stock and has a small  ding on the one side cover from a saddlebag. Otherwise it looks new.  I have never owned a DR and dont know anything about them. I do know that they are uber reliable, Japanese quality!!! What are your opinions on the matter???

My wife recently took it for a spin and loved it.

Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

You can listen to Chopperpilot on any info regarding DR's.
You will probably have to pay between 50 and 60 k for that bike.
Anything less would be a steal.
Let me know if you are not going to take it. I will.

Cheers

Kykdaar

Asking R52k. What to do??? Tried to haggle a bit on the price but the dude won't budge a cent.  Only rode 150kms in the past year.  It's tempting.

Take it - or send me his nr mate
You will NEVER regret buying a DR. And by the way, it will end up being your bike and not the plaintiff's..

Don't let it slip through your hands, because of a few $$$.

Sure you know that DRs are not available new in SA anymore.

They are still manufactured, so spares are easily available from the agents, but its so reliable, you'll hardly visit the agents. Hi-flo oil filters and other service items are freely available as aftermarket items.

I know you can't compare, but I ride with guys with 690s with my DR. At that price its good value for money in comparison to a new 690. 690s also break down regularly.

The DR's suspension is not that great, but should be fine for your wife's weight.

Your wife seems te be reasonably tall, so the DR's standard height looks to be fine for her. Both front and rear suspension can be changed to the low setting.

Go for it! Late model, low km DRs are hen's teeth!

By doing a few cheap modifications, you'll bring the engines alive!

Plenty info on that here on WD from Matie Spearo, Kykdaar and myself!

Having your wife smile like that and loving the DR, is priceless!

My DR is nie eens vereseker nie.

I bought that tank new, but Johann took it over from me.

The 18 liter IMS is sufficient for my needs!

It never had a drop of fuel in. Cost me nearly R6k at Runner!

i can vouch for the DR had one and rode it all over the place
put on the bigger IMS tank to get some range
had a guy in Pretoria west engineering shop make me a bash plate
made up a carrier rack and powder coated that to match the bike

did not give me a days problems ever and i was hard on it

and i took that bike everywhere

sold it to make way for an Africa twin for more long distance touring as my needs changed
but it was a hell of a good experience owning that DR
mother ....only half a word ;-)

R52k for 2012 DR? I think it's to much, I paid something like R45k for mine new around that time.
HennieS just bought a DR last week with 5000km on for R30k (Yes absolute bargain, I know but still)

But hey what do I know, go ahead if you have the bucks, personally I won't pay more than R45 at most.

My 2c

(One option: http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=199319.0;topicseen Yes, older and more kilo's but with 20k+ of extras and it will go on for ever)
