This week we are featuring a new 3 piece video set on the Thomas Bain built Tradouw Pass. We first filmed this pass in 2012 and we've come a long way since then. This pass has a rich history as we explore the endeavours of the very influential John Barry (after whom Barrydale is named) in a sort of a 1850's version of the Guptas as he exerted his influence, power and money on the Cape parliament to get this beautiful pass built supposedly to help the farmers, but the wily Mr. Barry built a goods shed at the mouth of the Breede River and ran a small shipping company to get the farmer's wares from the Overberg to Cape Town - and in so doing extended his business empire considerably.

Not that we're complaining as the magnificent Tradouw pass still stands today as a beautiful part of our heritage.

Never take this pass for granted. It is perfection itself encompassing wonderfully creative engineering, fabulous scenery and history that spans more than 130 years.

The click through link will take you to our Latest News page and from there to the Tradouw Pass page. There's lots of other interesting stuff there as well.
