WC Baja 2016 route and waypoints
« on: October 10, 2016, 10:34:58 am »
Does anyone have the route, track (etrex) and waypoints for the WC Baja 2016?

Thanks

Yo bud, Alexander sweat blood to get permission to ride that route, including negotiations with individual landowners.
Sharing it would be uncool.

And if you do decide to ride that area please get permissions.

:o Don't want to go ride it! I'd have to get there first ;D - I know it goes through private property and requires permission etc.  I actually just want to see how the waypoints and routes (if any) are setup.  I read and heard there were some issues with the routes and waypoints as well as issues with the roadbook and the waypoints markings...

So in preparation, I just want to see what monster I may be dealing with.

If that's still an issue then so be it...

So since no one is willing to divulge the state secrets of the baja rally  :deal: ... much like the coca cola, kfc and my mothers milktart recipes...  ;D can I ask the following questions.

Do they number the waypoints on the gps and roadbook so you know at which waypoint you are (without comparing the coordinates)? and more importantly
Do they create a route from the waypoints? So that you at least know what the order of the waypoints are - To avoid the classic waypoints-in-a-circle scenario with entry and exit points close to one another.

I assume you would be doing the Amageza soon. I dont think you should be concerned about gps vs roadbook. If you ride with a roadbook, then the gps is only a backup should you really get lost, then you can go towards the nearest waypoint. Also, dont know if its different this year, but your gps does not get pre-loaded with any routes or wp.

Nope... Not at all ready for the Amageza - Aiming for the WC Baja next year.

I see on google most of the roadbook tulips have coordinates on them.  Is this the normal way of doing it?  Will this be the case for the Amageza and/or Baja?

Does someone have an example of a typical waypoint tulip on a previous Amageza and/or Baja roadbook similar to the one below?

That's very similar to an Amageza roadbook, but with many more co-ordinates.  Our roadbooks usually give a few critical co-ordinates and require you to navigate between them. Otherwise your team sit up all night entering co-ordinates and produce a GPS track for you to follow.

If there is a Baja next year then there will probably not be a GPS option. This event was seen as a feeder to Amageza, and following the GPS track is not really an introduction to roadbook navigation.

I speak without checking facts with Alexander.  Things change ...

Hi
Below is a small portion of the roadbook from Amageza 2015.
The layout is stock standard FIM.
There may or may not be cap headings on each tulip.
There may or may not be GPS coords printed for WPVs. Alexander may chose to publish them on the notice board each day instead.
Each tulip will be numbered.
Each tulip will have total distance and incremental distance shown.

The icons used are defined in https://www.rallynavigator.com/system/resources/W1siZiIsIjIwMTUvMTAvMDkvMTgvNDAvMDkvYjE2YWI1N2EtMjNjOC00YWViLWFkZTMtOWExNjNiZDNkN2VkL0ZJTSBGSUEgQ3Jvc3MgQ291bnRyeSBJY29ucyAyMDE1LnBkZiJdXQ/FIM%20FIA%20Cross%20Country%20Icons%202015.pdf
It's worth learning them.

The FIM regs can be found at https://www.rallynavigator.com/system/resources/W1siZiIsIjIwMTUvMTAvMDkvMTgvMzgvNTYvNzUxNThiZmMtNDczYy00ZTMyLTkxNGEtMzA2NWNhMjZkYmYwL0ZJTSBDcm9zcyBDb3VudHJ5IFJhbGx5IFJlZ3MgLSAyMDE1LnBkZiJdXQ/FIM%20Cross%20Country%20Rally%20Regs%20-%202015.pdf?sha=0532f75e09382df7

Note that the SRs for Amageza (http://www.amagezarallye.com/motorbike, click on *View) take precedence over the FIM regs if they overlap. IMHO, study the Amageza regs, they are better written.

Is this helping at all?

Tehduchie, the question with that last RB is are you still in the RIO by 8.95 or not?

When its HP they need to be giving us a CAP, but it does not look like it. Like lemmings we shall follow! ;D

_AH_ After the Amageza, please ping me, and You can try out my 600km road book I did starting in a Pretoria . :thumleft:

Maybe I'll do some shorter 100km loops as well naturally with a couple of bittersweet navigational challenges... :deal:

Alex uses CAP for the initial direction and sometime general direction, only for that situation...  :imaposer:

So either he means, (option a) make your way at this point into the rio at a 223degree angle (which is correct) or he means, (option b) take a 223degree directiono ff piste  and follow that until the next situation, 3.67km further.

Ofcourse option A is correct while option B should be correct. He should have dropped the HP reference where he put the CAP heading. I think he was trying to clarify, turn right once in the RIO, please do not turn left....

You'll figure it out, or follow the tracks :)

The RIO lasted 40k's if memory serves me well and was a bitch...

aha, thanks for your answer tehduchie :thumleft:

So basically its a bit of cryptology until you get used to it, but which time if you are not thoroughly lost you would have run out of fuel :imaposer:

Got to love rally raid :ricky:
