Lane splitting in Botswana?
« on: October 18, 2016, 08:12:52 pm »
Last week a group of us were on route via Gabarone.... the main road A1, heading towards Palapaye.

Traffic was pretty heavy and we were all merely lane splitting.....!

Suddenly it occured to me, shyt.....is his actually legal here in Bots?

Perhaps someone can clarify  :thumleft:

In Botswana the cops decide at will what is legal or not. depends how hungry they are.  :eek7:
I have never actually seen a bike lane splitting in Gabs though.

I don't agree. I ran 4x4 and bike tours there (and other countries) for many years and can tell you that Botswana is probably the least corrupt of all our neighbouring countries.  If you're caught on a traffic offence with a foreign registered vehicle, you'll have to pay a fine on the spot but you will get a receipt and the cash will go to the right place.

I can't answer the lane splitting question with certainty though.

Could not find anything related to Lane splitting!
Only something with regards to a bicycle riding on the right shoulder if traffic is stationary & it is safe to do so. ☺️
