Which panel van will take 2 x motorcycles ?
« on: October 24, 2016, 12:04:20 pm »
I'm sure this was discussed before but I cannot find the thread. Looking at a panel van that will take two dirt bikes eg. XR 650, Husaberg 650 with space to spare for kit. Seems on some tyhe roof is too low. Older models. I was thinking :

Renault Traffic
Peugeot Boxer
Opel Vivaro (basically a Renault)

Thanks

I got a F650 Dakar in the back of a Vito after removing the screen and mirrors - drove it to CT with full camping gear for 3 weeks, towing a GSA, which would also have fitted in width-wise, but way too much to take off to get it in height-wise.

Don't forget you also get a high-top version.....

Toyota Quantum High roof. LWB.

We use one for the shop.

We can fit 2 x superbikes in the back and then it still seats 6 people.

I can load my Yamaha Super Tenere into the back with panniers. We have even loaded a fully dressed 1981 Honda Goldwing into the back.

The quantum is perfect. The door sill is low and the door is as high as the roof with no lintel in the way.

I think the Vito is the only one of the popular mini-busses not to get a dirt bike in without strapping the suspension down.  Once through the tail gate, its OK.

We use an Iveco Daily. I can fit 6 plastics with all the gear as well as folding tables, chairs, braai and cooler boxes. The side door makes for easy access and we can sit 4 in the front. I am selling it at R 110k if you might be interested

Vito will take two plastics  - one facing forward the other backwards. I've got a Ktm690 (mirrors removed) into Vito, but it won't take anything higher than this.

Ford Transit is a better bet as entry dimensions are bigger than the Vito, but expensive!!

Type of van you get is also dictated by the type of drivers licence you have - a lot of vans require more than a normal code 08 licence.

Alfie Cox has started using the Mabor van!
Looks lekker and code 8!
Was cheap when I looked at them!
Maybe an option if you are not going to clock up serious mileage!

I have a light truck licence, cant remember code (10 ?). But also when deciding to buy dont want to go too big, double rear wheels etc. This thing still needs to be parked in my houses yard.

Sounds like H1 might be your best bet?
Relatively cheap to buy, reliable and low risk!
I would buy sprinter as I park mine in parallel parking, very light on fuel and lasts forever!
Not cheap and yes I am biast!

Aren't the Sprinters rated >3.5t so can't be driven with a code 08?

Yip!
That is why I think the H100 might be better suited for his use!

I have an Opel Vivaro 2.0 petrol - I have fitted 2 x Suzuki DL 1000's in it. One facing forward the other backwards. I had to remove the screen and mirrors but they fitted OK. The Renault Traffic is longer than the Opel. 2 x KTM 690's fit easily.
