Hi Guys,

Ive Recently purchased a 690 Enduro R 2009 model, great condition , however, I have Noticed that the bike will not start while it is in gear, clutch pulled in (Obvious...) and side stand in the up position. :o

Is this just a standard feature on the 2009 model? I have ridden the newer 690 enduros and they start in Gear (Quite handy in the case of stalling in the bush on an uphill)
Now I know I shouldnt be stalling my bike but I am still relatively new to this kind of riding.

Any feedback will be appreciated  ;D

Check your clutch switch
Something to think about...
When you complain, you make yourself a victim. Leave the situation, change the situation, or accept your it. All else is madness.

Do you have an aftermarket clutch lever?
On my 2013 690 I installed a Midwest engineering clutch lever and originally
it did not come with a little pin that actuates the switch to tell the bike the clutch is pulled in.

If the lever is still stock, check that your pin is still there and if so then I'd guess your switch might be toast or not making contact.
It uses a little metal arm - could just need bending to make better contact.

Opened the clutch lever over the weekend and cleaned all the parts out..very dirty...  >:( >:( ended up spending a full day on removing and cleaning parts but still no luck.

Going to have a look at the switch itself and swap test it with another 690 switch.

Thanks! :thumleft:

just bridge out the two wires and check if it starts in gear,  then replace the old switch if faulty/necessary,  as far as I  know the  switch has something to do with the efi maps setting so only use this method to test otherwise you might run the  motor on a restricted mode ( -30% power)
