If it is numbers you are looking for Alex, ....
Make the rally lite green route Adventure bike friendly  - then all the Wilddogs will turn up ;)

We have a "farmtruck" devision at the KoŽs rally for the guys feeling the petrol-pressure.....these guys take part in a much smaller race with normal bakkies (there are certain restrictions and rules though) or what have you, and allot of these okes get bitten by the rally bug and turn up the next year with a dedicated racing machine.....So I guess it is more or less the same as what Grolls suggest could happen if you include the adventure bike element.....in the early days of Amageza it was all Adventure bikes and the top finishers have mostly all gone on to dedicated recing machines........
Now that is a good idea!
Something like that closer to me and I would like to do it.
Sure it will give the figures a boost.
They do it very successfully with the road running.

I was dreaming of such an event where I can partake on the 640.  I think it's a brilliant idea!  :thumleft:

I recommended the same in Alex's email survey. There shouldn't just be below and above 450cc but a 3rd adventure class. Almost like Rally Raid that work on GPS's, same as the lite class. It still however remains a race.

Agree, the Baja should be an opportunity for a wide range of riders to experience rallye type conditions without having to buy or build a complete rallye bike.

Roadbooks have an advantage, they are able to describe road conditions in detail to assist riders with cautions. Tracks on a GPS have limited info.so riders must go with visual judgement.

There is such a class the 'Off-Road' class. Was called 'Lite' last year. You ride what you bring. You need 100km fuel range. You use whatever GPS you have. ( Note: as long as it has a USB interface via a mini-usb and can be browsed from Windows Explorer) You don't require a license, registration nor roadworthy. The route is a bit shorter than the Rally Category and navigation is by GPS. You only require a One Event MSA license.

So all those guys who said they would enter the Livingstone cup on their adventure bikes have no excuse to enter this race.
Will there be a prize for the first place adventure bike or do you think they will be competitive against the enduro bikes in the Off-road class?

Essentially there is no reason you cannot do the Baja 'Off-Road' class on a bigger bike. I rode extensively in that area with first a KTM 990 and then a Yamaha Tenere. So did the 2013 & 2014 Amageza competitors. Both bikes were fine. A lighter bike is just more nimble up rocks. If enough riders are interested, I can add a 'Bronze' class, circumnavigating the most technical climbs. Decents should not be a problem, nor should sand if you have a 21" front wheel. Let's just say, I will give you a route around the rougher stuff.

Could be something like:
Gold: Rally Class - Road Book Navigation, 250km fuel range, 500-600km stages.
Silver: Off-Road Class: GPS Navigation: 100km Fuel Range, 400km Stages.
Bronze: Adventure Class: GPS Navigation: 250km Fuel Range, 300-400km Stages.

First, Second, Third trophy in each class.

You will still need a One-Event MSA License. Get it from carmen@motorsport.co.za (If you are older than 50 years, you need to send a stress EKG to MSA before they will give you a license.)
You will need to hire a tracker at the event: Around R600.
You will still need a 446 MHz two way radio to chat with org aircraft.
Good idea to rent a Satellite Phone. Extremely sparse cell reception, and the cheaper satellite tracker does not have a  SOS button yet.

You will walk around like John Wayne after doing that area on a big bike. Its epic riding stuff. No gates, no people, few animals and WIDE open space!

"People will come, Ray. People will most definitely come."
Some brave ones will do Bronze class this year . . . they'll rave about it and next year will be oversubscribed . . .
methinks [uninformed, gut feel, maybe needs a bit of grapevine marketing]

Bliksem!  Ek gaan nou gym.

On a serious note, the bronze is a awesome class.  That is what every 690 & 701 & 650 and and with a long range tank must be scheming about right now.

Here you go!

You will require some sand and rock riding skills. But we will not send you up a goat track nor sand-dune.

You will not be racing but will only receive a finishers medal on completion of all three stages. You cannot ask for, nor will you be given your times. If you need to prove your speed then choose another class!  >:D

You can however bring whatever has wheels and a engine. No roadworthy required. You need to be older than 18 if solo. If you are 17 and a parent is doing the race with you, then you are welcome to enter. You require a minimum of a MSA Single Event License from carmen@motorsport.co.za.

I will add this to the planning-a-ride thread as well. What you get for your moola is over
here: http://amageza.com/online_shop/index.php?route=product/category&path=59_60_61 () ,
and the regulations here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1S-XeoSItajbphz5rg_IPuLhwS3M2kFwrKXI21ri_Bgs/edit?usp=sharing.

Would be nice to see the 1 liter bikes back in action.  :thumleft:
