Looking for more accurate dates for Oranjemund.  Was most excellent last year and I definitely want to do it.  I just need to book my leave now.

Whats the requirements to race the Oranjemund desert 300?

Hi
Dewald Van Rensberg & Gert Luus run the Oranjemund motor club (OMC) who are a part of the Namibian South Series. This series is not affiliated to NMSF but run on their own.
You sign and indemnity  at documentation (don't need a motorsport license).

Desert 300 program.
Friday 2pm Time trial starting in Town main street, approx. 70km.
Saturday all racing starts at OMC club house, they normally work on 3-4 loops approx. 350-300 for the day. Loop consists of a good mix , hard pack, trails and big dunes.
Bikes and Quads pull off according to TT positions and cars at the back.
Top six Namibian and top six SA results score towards a floating trophy.

I've raced the desert for the last three years, found it to be worthwhile, safe and well organised. These guys go their way to make everyone welcome, they pre organise security clearance to enter town etc.. food great, bar etc...
They also make the effort to race most of our races so lets support them too.

Obviously off topic but hopefully also applicable to other "males" ;)

My 11j old son is colour blind and red/green is basically the same colour. This is also the two colours that will be affected if you have only a slight colour blindness.

We were planning to do the WCOC races this year as he is growing nicely into the sport.
My question - What colour are the markers that WCOC use? And if red, how do other "colour blind" riders cope??

I did the West Cost funduro last weekend for the first time with him - Complete chaos! I could not leave him alone as he was missing every turn off!! I can not see the red marker attached to a "green" bush or tree

If the markers are neon yellow it should not be a problem though
ps. This only affects males as females are the gene carrier for colour blindness but only the males get the symptoms (or actual condition)

Markers are neon orange and green.

Orange to give direction and green to tell you that you are on the wrong road, or road closed.

Never thought about this but only now realising it can be a major issue for some  :eek7:

Thanks for the info!

Yes, also experienced it for the first time on Saturday.

At the end I was chasing him all over the "West coast". At every turn off there was multiply tracks than also did not help...

Maybe chat to the club, maybe they can change the green sticker, usually not used a lot, or even just draw a cross on them.

All the races I have done from various clubs all use the green and orange stickers. So it will probably always be an issue.

Yes. I'm red/green colour blind and I used to run the WFO! Not much helps. Sometimes I just had to wait for someone to catch me up and show me the way. Variations on orange/red give different problems in different backgrounds.
The dog that caught the car. What now?

Hi Please give me a call  0829001334 - if your son would like to participate ill gladly take him out on a marked track and coach him what to look for. It is not difficult (I struggle a little with colours) but rather its more about how our tracks are marked, what to expect & look out for. We at WCOC used draw a black cross on green for this purpose but it was a waste. Happy to take him track setting for a day or too, sure it will help.
