African rain seasons and travel start date
« on: December 29, 2016, 09:06:43 pm »
Hello everyone

I am planning Cape to Europe trip in about 4-5 months.

Seems weather should be nice along the way starting around that time so i don't get caught in heavy rains and whatnot.

But, if i could leave earlier, say Feb. I cannot figure out rain patterns around equator etc. especially places like kenya, ethiopia, uganda, rwanda ...

Any helpful thoughts / suggestions ?

Would i be making a mistake by leaving earlier ? should i stick with april/may departure?

thank you in advance

Stick with your original plan, long rains start in Feb and last until April in East Africa, although rain patterns have been disrupted due to the elnino thing. If you only traveling tar then rain shouldn't be an issue. Offroad will be perilous.

I have the same thoughts and plan. I decided to start in May. How chilly is this time SA and Swaziland, Lesotho, Namibia?
