On the spur of the moment we decided to head up Sani & through Lesotho before 2017 strikes.
My brother-in-law (BIL) is here from Doha so I manage to borrow a GSA for him as he has never done something like this before. As a result of this and all the lovely rain we had, we had to to a fair amount of asphalt chewing on this trip.
Day 1: We took the N3 to Warden where we met the gravel towards to Verkykerskop and then to Normandien Pass (normally very beautiful, but due to to the fog...). Then asphalt to Nottingham Road via Ladysmith. From Notties we had a beautiful 94km to Himeville via Soutar's Hill Pass and then we headed up Sani. Pretty much most of the day was overcast & wet which made going up Sani a bit more challenging; especially for BIL. After a lite spill early on, he "white knuckled it" and came up tops on Sani....very exhausted! :hello2:
Day 2: Where day1 was cold & rainy, day2 was hot & sunny! Asphalt all the way back to Pretoria through Lesotho. The road the Chinese built is in excellent condition and really lends itself for twisting the throttle! We left at 08:30, stopped here and there for pics, coffee at Oxbow, lunch in Bethlehem and was back in Pta by 17:00.
BIL says he enjoyed every moment of it but can't remember when last his whole body, including fingers, was that stiff. :ricky:
