How many KM is your clutch suppose to last on a bike? I know it all depends on driving style and abuse but if I drive like an old lady and get 30k out of sprockets how will I know when my clutch is due for replacement.

at R7k I will have to rob a bank seeing that the aftermarket kit does not work correctly
I LOVE RIDING

Well I have now replaced that one plate at 78k. Service history is not showing any previous replacements but you never know I guess?

Well mine made it to 50k km and i only replaced my chain and sprockets at 38k km so i dont think its is a tell tale. I did however do some very bad terrain often having to be on the clutch to go slow enough.

Eish, I wouldn't be happy either. Mine is going for 80k service and valve clearances needs to be checked. I have a little surprise for them if they don't.

How much was the clutch kit?

Ouch, I really hope my china plate will last. I'm going to research other options again in case I need to replace all the plates at some point.

Fan was R1570 incl shipping. Is yours seized up? All BMW had to do was spin the fan up at start up for a couple of seconds, but no...

I've done some further research and came across this.
http://www.trwmoto.com/en/catalogue/product/MCC612-9/

Grandmark are the local TWR/Lucas agents so I'll find out if they can get these kits.

It was literally just the one plate that was worn and replacing that one seems to have done the trick. I have done 7000km since without issue.
My clutch isn't very stiff so maybe compare with another one at a dealership?

Thanks. I'm a useless mechanic and I use the bike daily so I'll probably end up taking it to someone.

Apart from slipping, my gear changes are also super sticky and noisy. Also very minimal range in the action. Neutral, not sure. I usually put the bike in neutral before coming to a stop.

I also use mine daily but I must say, it was a mission and a half getting that plate to fit - lots of filing and test fitting until it was perfect.
Best would be to source the correct plates and have them fitted.

Hi guys,

I know the topic is a bit old, but I need to replace the clutch in my 800 soon. So the options are limited but I just spoke to a place in Joburg about re-bonding the friction plates.

Has anyone done this? Does it work? And if the price is right is it worth the risk?

Any response would be appreciated.

Two 800's each with 100 000 km and original clutch. Around 2011 models I think

One stiff lever and one nice and smooth.  ???

No slipping or gear change issues on either.

Just an update - I have since sold the bike, but the clutch is still going strong. It does take a bit high because the replacement plate is a bit thinner, but no issues otherwise.
