Gravelmad
Race Dog
So between Father Christmas, staff parties, New Years Eve and quite frankly, too many fun loving friends, i decided to take a little me time and just ride my bike for a few days. I have skirted into and around bits of the Eastern Cape before but it always leaves you wanting more, so I decided to do a little informal, slightly random trip to see what I could see.
Day1
I left Napier and headed toward Malgas and the pont, weather was pretty pleasant but I was expecting a little rain later in the week in the EC,
I then headed on the gravel toward Heidelberg where I had some coffee and decided on my next move. I then went over Gysermanshoek
and turned right toward Attaqwaskloof and Bonnidale adventure camp
( The road was good, but those Damn gates that are placed on steep declines can be a pain ). Bonniedale had really dodged a bullet and on Christmas eve, the fires had come to within a few hundred meters of them on three sides. They were all evacuated but the choppers saved the dwellings and campsite ).
I refilled my camelbak and continued on the back roads to Grootbrak where i had lunch in the garage forecourt.By now there were a few drops of rain about but not enough to dampen the spirits.I then went over the back and continued on the gravel towardsGeorge.. In George I bought some meat, milk and coffee for the plunger then headed over the old Montegue pass towards the N9. I crossed the N9 and went around the back of the mountain
ending up 10km from Uniondale.there were some fires still burning here and there.
After refueling I headed towards the Baviaans . The heavens opened and I rode into Uitspan Campsite drenched.Luckily the rain stopped sometime during the night and I was able to pack up in the dry
My Distance for the day was about 560km
