Welcome - you really going to enjoy this trip. Look at some of the road trip reports for info . Michnus and Schalk van der Merwe reports can be of value .  Suggest that you place a map of your planned route here and the  Wild dogs will comment and provide help . When are you shipping the bikes ? To what port ?

http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=197379.msg3645520#msg3645520

I have agreement with  Duncan from African Overlanders to manage shipping our bike to SA. I don`t know details, but hope all will be ok. Bike should be in SA at end of April.

Thank you for the good wishes and invitations. Upon arrival, I contact and at least one cold is waiting for us :)
Also, thank you for the suggestions. I've already found a lot of useful. My general philosophy is to avoid over-planning. Also, the next day's route will be made in the evening before. The main focus is to meet interesting people, enjoy the ride and of course the breathtaking nature of Africa.

Hi there,

expedia allows you to cancel within 24hrs with no charge. maybe that helps :)

Looks like me and another person (me on BMW and he on 990) will be leaving in mid april and track north via east coast. so perhaps we can be of some help ahead :)

our time frame is much shorter, but that's ok i guess :)

Today, it is not clear how to get from Egypt to Europe. Ideal would be to drive to Israel. Then the ferry to Greece and ok. Unfortunately, there is no regular ship traffic between  Greek and Israel. And last news i know, Sinai desert is not allowed on motorbike. True, there is probably possible to find opportunities.
Another way to travel to Europe is through Egypt and Libya to Tunisia. From Tunisia should be easy to get Italy by ship. The question is Libya. Not much inf about travel in Libya last time.
Sudanese visa is also guestion.

Contact Andi Koru, he is a crazy New Zealander that just did that a month or so ago. He shipped his bike from Egypt to Europe.

My experience is not recent but from end 2013 - We obtained the Sudanese visa in Addis Ababa.  A hassle free experience.  As best as I know that is still the case.  Once you are on the road you will get more info as you meet others.  I would not worry about that visa too much.  Have you joined Horizons Unlimited forum and Facebook page.  A lot of travelers there who are currently on the road and can give some answers.

You will definitely be able to ship your bike as freight from Egypt to Greece.  Not as easy as a ferry but an alternative if your other options don't work out.

I see @michnus went from Israel to Italy

You can also look at their website: http://www.pikipiki.co.za/
They are currently in South America, but the detail from their trip through Africa to Europe is also on the site

The question is Libya.

Stay away from Libya
I have a Libyan work colleague
His family don't want him to return to Libya - too dangerous

Plenty ferry traffic from Morocco to Algeciras - most commonly Cuetta and Tanger Med to Algeciras.
There are also ferries from Tanger Med to Gibraltar.
Shouldn't be a problem at all.

Read also Horizons Unlimited forum for info on North Africa and ferries, also visas for Ethiopia,Sudan and Egypt. Fuel all the way to Kenya is not an issue, you should have a tent- though central Africa has many small and cheap guest house, change money at ATM/bank/bureau where possible, be very wary of changing currency at border posts with touts. Don't overplan and smell the bushes! If you pass through Tanzania, drop me a pm...

Last I was u there there was a ferry that ran from Port Said to Tunis, but that was some time ago.
There are commercial shipping companies that operate up there and some carry passengers (we used to).
