I felt similarly to you regarding the 790.  It always felt like a downgrade from the 1290 and it wasn't like I was going to save any money.

My gut feeling is that you will destroy a Triumph pretty quickly the way you ride :laughing4: From initial reports the 900 is quite a bit "softer" than the 790.   But That was just one video.

The 900 looks good, but I feel like it's just a variation on a theme, rather than an actual game changer like the 790 is.

you summarized it brilliantly there about it being a game changer.
I have heard of some hardcore dude that sold 690 / 990 and got 790. Enjoyed it, broke it, sold it out of frustration, and now are bike-less as everything is a step down after the 790.

sidenote, insurance almost almost screwed up and I bought the 1190 back for R35k. Bummer, just got me excited for nothing! My bike needs maximum R20k to be tip top again.

Did I mention smartiebox deurmekaar….
so where I have been going wrong with the bike is the once yearly trips to Lesotho. Its simply to big and gets abused to much. but that's once a year. I am perfectly willing to do the same with a 1290 or LC with Sport suspension as well. But I will then have to continue buying spares and fixing them up. Lets call that option 1
2 - 790R. This is my first option and probably what I will be doing. The problem is that I refuse to pay 200k for a 790 cc bike when I can get perfectly good 1290 2017 models as well as LC rally with sport suspencion 2017 for R170k class money. This is the issue, they need to become secondhand.
3 - get a 990 and ride it for a year or two and then get a 790. But call me hard headed, I am not paying 1190 class money for a 990. In my mind its the inferior bike, you wont convince me otherwise. But there is options out there to explore and to do this.
4 - I really like the triumph 900. They have more low down grunt now. Its slightly less technical than 790 but more touring ready, which fits my kind of riding better. It will require suspension work though and they are R215k new. reviews are great and I do like gadgets and something exceptional.

remember 1290/LC getting running repairs due to abuse will still be cheaper than the depreciation on a new bike.

oh and the frame break, just google ktm 1190 adventure frame break or crack, it should be one of the first pictures. I will put up more detail when the money is in my account

You have some serious issues on what to buy and why.  Think of it this way. You are not getting married to the new bike, whatever you are taking.  I know you like all the bling / riding modes / settings that comes with a new bike.  And I agree it is great buying a new bike.  Considering what type of riding you are doing, the 990 have more than enough power.  A lot less electronics that can still break, but will most of the time keep the bike going with you.  At the end of the day, the 990 is not the fastest and strongest bike out there. It still has loads of power it is fast enough to keep up with any adventure bike, you will be working harder at high speeds on tar.  As soon as you start doing the rough stuff in Lesotho it gets into its element and you will start to enjoy it more and more no sand and technical stuff.

I rode with a bunch of new bikes the weekend and a lot of the guys that would normally ride up any hill for the fun of it risking a fall here and there under normal conditions just stood there and watch the rest of us have fun on the up and down the steep hill.  I understand you do not want to risk falling your brand new adventure...  I took a few risks and enjoyed myself thoroughly...

Get the 990R and see how you enjoy the bike.  You will still get good money for it after a year or 2...

The only time I know of that failing electronics caused a guy a trip was Gerhard with a failed oil sensor on a 990.
Electronics don't cost trips.

I do Lesotho trips once a year where the 990 (or 790) will be better. But on those trips a 990 never went where I couldn't. My repair bill was just higher.
Rest of the time its gravel highways. I actually still have to do my 2500km dusty butt. It was due this year. almost forgot about that!

Now I forgot what I wanted to say, I really wanted to do that dustybutt with the 1190, its the perfect bike with the reworked suspension. There was some awesome high speed jumps due!

Just keep your 1190, and but a plastic to do the rough stuff with.  :deal:

Almost bought a 300 a month ago. But again realized I do not have the blinged out bakkie that goes with a plastic  ;D
Not that much plastic riding in this area, plus the plastic gang in the area ride hard for half an hour and then take a smoke for an hour. I kept up well enough with the 1190 on the sand tracks then. But as with anything opportunities will get more if you actually have the right tool I guess.

Currently once the insurance money is in my account I will start searching hard for a bike. At the moment its 50 50 whether I get a 790 or 990.
It will be determined by the price of 790 bikes

There doesn't seem to be even 1 used 790 available at the moment. I had a look yesterday.

Jap, I called Bloem KTM and all of theirs sold, even the advertised ones and their demo.
They are getting 3 new R's but some of them also already sold. New price is R210k

ouch

Personally I am waiting for Manic to sell his.

I will then use a front-man to buy his!

Ya no. R210k is too much.

When does the mythical t700 arrive? I might be on pension by then though.

Ktm Cape Town told me also that the 1090 is discontinued and there's talks of a 9XX? model or something coming to SA close to then end of the year.  Anyone of you aware of it?

Probably the 890 motor in the duke.

I think my next bike will be the Husky 901 (same motor) if I can swing it.

Ek dink steeds 790 R maak net sin as jy meestal gebruik waarvoor hy gemaak is.....

I was wondering about the 890 actually. It sounds perfect.
I was thinking... 1090 was out for 4 years, 1190 also, 990 and 950  I think 5 years each, so I don't see the 890 happening for at least another 2 years? Pity.

My vrou druk my ook vir 790.

Hehe jy hoop so!

Maar dit sal, en aanvrag is hoog so ek glo ook so.

Die covid storie lyk nie of dit die mark juis so hard slaan nie.

Meeste 990's verkoop nie gou nie so ek glo meeste van daai pryse is elkgeval bietjie optimisties, en dit lyk of die 1190 se pryse weer geklim het in laaste 6 maande. SO ja, 990 lyk soos goeie koop tans

Ek sal hom oorweeg. (T7)

EK sien dit so:
790 nie eintlik nie, ek weeg meer as 80kg

Teen daai tyd is my Sasol aandele seker by R500 per aandeel so geld sal dalk nie pyn wees nie.

Ek stem 100% saam met jou.  Jou ry styl pas maar aan by dit wat jy het.  Ek ry ook baie minder lang trips maar geniet my 1290 so baie.
