I had a productive weekend!
Lets start with the Good!
I fitted a Rotweiler intake.
I wasn't really planning to fit one, rather happy with the Unifilter setup. But I was planning to fit some heat reflection under the tank and did have a hotish bum sometimes but nothing to troublesome. But then I managed to get the Rotweiler for cheap and grabbed it. Simpler is better.
The Bad...
The Rotweiler intake does not have an inlet for the SAS system. So the decision was made for me to drop the SAS system. Like I said...simpler is better. But it seems like it wont be to easy to source a blank-off kit in South Africa. I don't have time to import. Know any one making these? (How long does it take to order from Rotweiler?)
The UGLY
Oh man, I have not been looking forward to stripping the front end to see what's going on there. And it was exactly what I feared. The mounts of the head unit was off. I think any 1190 that does a little gravel has an 80% chance of having the same issue. Piss poor design.
So finding the broken mounts gave me mixed feelings, I was happy to find the issue so it can get properly sorted. The loose head unit have been stealing a lot of my confidence in the bike, impacting hugely on my speed. But on the other hand I knew instantly its not going to be a good clean fix. In the end I am very sad at taking a welder to my frame, but it is what it is. It also means there is no way now of selling the bike on the forum again.
BTW, a friend had the same issue and pointed it out to KTM, they wanted to replace the frame. HOW WILL THAT HELP? He traded the bike back to them.
Anyhow, we did a Sonday jobby of it. My father is a boilermaker, so it may not be pretty but it wont break again.
And I still have to refit all the panels, not looking forward to that. This was one of the bigger stripdowns I have done to date.
