Willem - The icy cold Coke was just a pleasure... since I decided not to ride the 2nd day (my first DNS :-( ...) it was only my duty to drive out to Alexander Bay to give you guys some support... to give you an idea how fast you guys were: I waited till the Spar opened in Port Nolloth, bought some cold drinks and ice, leisurely drove to Alexander Bay and when I was 200m from the turn into town you guys crossed the road to go to the petrol station!!!

I recorded 42degC on the road next to the Atlantic on my car... easily above 50degC a few km's inland.

50 degrees  Alex! You're such a good guy, bud. :thumleft: :notworthy:

WDT: You go, you thing of beauty!   O0  :ricky:

Quote
Word of warning, be carefull when removing the stock footpegs, the spring is under same tension and can fly out and hit you right on the forehead, if you are an idiot like me!

I love this advice, thank you!  :laughing4: Just the sort of thing that would happen to me.

A hire bike from BAS sounds like a good idea, and does work out a little bit cheaper in the end. I think.  :patch: Hopefully they have thrown in all the spares on the price, but its something to think about beforehand. Sometimes guys hire race bikes with spares included, but it might be cheaper (or more expensive) to hire just the bike plus spares.

Safe riding this weekend!! Goooo WDT!!

Willem,
you mention in a reply to Rynet that you are glad that people read the gebabbel . . .
Luister ou - we don't just read it, we lap it up like the thirsty dogs we are!

Thank you for the labour of love in putting hands to keyboard. I was on one of the other support crews at the WC Baja and it was an insane experience to be close to the action. But to get a first hand account from the okes who did the riding (things of beauty or not ) is like drinking that ice cold coke you got from AlexRG!

Keep going strong for Dakar 2018 - I'll be following . . .

Good afternoon!

Short update.

The sponsorship proposal and website is in process. A first draught will be available soon. Really looking forward to get it so I can start in earnest to try and gest some sponsorship.
As Alex R has mentioned, the facebook page is also up and running. BEtween Alex and myself we will try to post regular content, consisting of general rally news, and of course any developments regarding my program.

Bart is still busy with my bike, should be finished any day now, and then shipped to SA. I really cant wait to start training on it.
On the subject of bikes, I finished yesterday evening prepairing my 2016 KTM 350 SX-F to sell. I will post an Auto Trader link as soon as my guys finished loading it, if any one is interested.

The weekends race was a moerse disaster! Me and Hentie did the Lichtenburg National Off road. Qualifying went OK, qualified in sixth, with Hentie third if I remember corectly. Then the race started! after having 3 BIG moments in the first 40km`s I decided to back of and just try and finish without any mishaps. The track consisted of 170km`s of lurkers! few of the top guys crashed out with broken collar bones, arms etc. I was too conservative and missed the time bar!!! actually I am not sure as the organisers extended it as well as hortened the second loop to under a hundred kms. No excuses, i was to slow and not brave enough.
Hentie finished 4th, he came very close to getting a podium, but he also decided it is not worth hurting himself. We will be back for the next one!

That is about all the news I have at the moment

A picture or 2 will follow

NOT!
Would be a disaster if you got hurt...

Well done Willem, you made it back in one piece!

So, how does it feel to race with red numbers...  >:D

Take my advice; I don't use it anyway.
