The TTT stands the Tiffindell-Tenahead Traverse. This road is a rough, slow contour type traverse in the southern Drakensberg that was originally built to patrol stock theft into Lesotho. It's quite a bit shorter getting to Naude's Nek Pass view-site via this route from Tiffindell at 27 km, but it's much longer in time than going via Carlisleshoekspruit Pass. The traverse takes about 2,5 hrs to complete. This is a road for the less hurried traveller and along the high ridges of the Drakensberg, chances are you wont see another soul all day - except for a lonely herdboy.

We rated this a Grade 1 to 2 in dry weather, but if you're caught up there in a hectic electric storm or snow, things could go pear shaped fairly quickly. Most people have not driven this road and some might even consider it boring, but this one is for the purest nature lover, where you'll have plenty of time to photograph the alpine flowers, vultures and 'spek-vet' cattle who stubbornly stand their ground across the road. And there are farm gates to open and close.

One night in Tiffindell or Rhodes and the next at the 5 star Tenahead Lodge would make for a fantastic two days is the southern Berg. There are four videos covering all the salient points of the route as well as the three river crossings. And two guest videos (one filmed from a drone over Tiffindell)

Check it out!
