Real Road Racing - 2017 season
« on: February 24, 2017, 02:45:34 pm »
Michael Dunlop, the fastest Road Racer of recent times, will pilot the GSX-R1000 at the 4 major races this season (incl the IoM TT).

Speculation started last November but nobody thought he would change from the BMW which he developed & had such great success with. Further, many thought he learnt his lesson when he tried the awful Yamaha in 2015.

Going to be a great year if the Suzi flies.

I know 3 guys attending the IoM TT this year SPECIFICALLY to see John McGuinness equal or break Joey Dunlopís record of 26 wins.

Well, John fractured his leg during practice for the North West 200. Chances are slim that he'll heal (let alone be fit) in 2 weeks.

Yeah.  Sadly, it seems John will not make the IoM this year.  I just read he will be in a body cast for six weeks due to broken vertebrae.  This on top of the fact that his leg is so badly broken they could not use internal plates on it and will fit that external contraption tomorrow.

John will be missed at the IOM this year - extensive injuries (Tib, Fib,  Ribs, Vertebrae) from his crash at Primrose Hill in the NW200. A pity as it was going to be an historical year for McGuiness if he matched King Joey's record wins......although the way the Honda is performing I don't rate his chances as very high. The new Fireblade doesn't seem to have found its edge yet - in WSBK, or Proddy racing or the Road Races - which in my mind are the real test measures.I am sure it will come, but I think the Tyco BMW's will be hard to beat this year.

Pity about the cheery Ulsterman, The Bear and I had to chance to meet him in 2003 when we were there. That was when he won the Senior TT on the Ducati, despite Ryan Farquhar gaining the fastest lap at 122.30 MPH!!!
Here's a mind boggling stat we set the GPS Ave at the start line and went round the circuit, our lap 122.6 KMH - kinda humbling hey. AND we were on hire bikes, which we all know are faster than anything!
