KTM 1190R or wait for 1090R
« on: March 07, 2017, 03:07:07 pm »
Hi, i'm planning on buying a bike soon and with the discounts available on the 1190R, I'm wondering if it's worth the wait, or to just get the 1190R while there is still stock.

I would say 1190.  It's just more bike.

It's the 1090, Plus TPMS, the full leanable ABS saftey story and more power.

The Discounts on the 1190s bum me out a little right now. Can get a new one now for basically what I paid for mine with 300kms on in June last year.

I'm also leaning towards the 1190R, from what I can see there is not a huge difference, some stronger rims and different rear suspension. Have read a lot they compare the 1090 more to the 1050.

Jeez, we must be reading different articles. 1090R has 125 horses compared to the 1050's 98, and is more offload focused than the 1190 is - long travel suspension, psd rear, new chassis and 21 inch spoked front compared to 1050 cast mag and 19 inch front wheel.

Uhm.....The 1090R has exactly the same suspension travel as the 1190R    Don't just believe the salesman blurb.  It's no more focussed than the 1190R is.

Uhm... to quote you "Have read a lot they compare the 1090 more to the 1050" - I was therefore referring to the 1050 suspension, which is pretty Ave, as I have to disagree with that comparison. Of course the 1190 has good suspension. Anyway - 800R will be the purebred ADV when it comes out... I am hoping

I'm in the market for a new bike. I decided that the way forward must be the 1090 or the 1290 and have settled on the 1090R. I agree the 1190 is an awesome machine but most of us who ride around remote gravel roads won't appreciate or notice minor kW differences or suspension changes. If I was an 1190 owner I would never by a 1090, there's no point. To buy a new bike however has the advantage of selecting a machine  that will in all probability be entrenched KTM technology for years to come.  Would I buy an 1190 when prices are already slipping, you can buy a new 1190 now for the same price guys are asking for 2014 models or thereabouts on gumtree (give or take the extras)? I think not unless you wait for real bargains which will come over the next year or so after the newer bikes reach the market.

This is my opinion and admit I rode an 1190 yesterday and had the urge to buy one instead of waiting for May or whenever the release date is for the 1090,  I decided to wait for the 1090.

Oh, and I also test rode the DCT Africa Twin and really liked it (ok not the DCT) but for basically the same price I feel I'm getting more from KTM with the 1090 offer.  AT is also awesome!!!

The 1090R is R179,995. With KTM bashplate and panniers it runs up to R210k
You can get a 2015 1190R (with loads of extras) with less than 10,000 on the clock for R160k
OR A new 1190R for R179k as well !
 ;D Difficult choice !
Sometimes you don't need a plan, just balls :)
I'd rather ... be riding my motorcycle and thinking about God than sitting ... in Church and thinking about my motorcycle.

Yes, i agree on your view and what is available at good pricing, but F%64 it.  My extras are limited to only a bash plate and maybe bottom engine protection.  I don't know yet what i would need for my existing soft luggage on the 1090 though.
