I don't commute and still average Km 400 a month on day and overnight trips. Married, kid's and all other responsibilities thrown into the  mi

You married the right woman.  Not all of them understand that men need some "away" time.

Haha. You think?  The best was when I had committed myself to a long weekend Mozambique trip and completely forgot to tell her, that is until three days before. We had a laugh and that was that.

I'm married and have put a lot of KM's on bikes.
An understanding wife helps I suppose. :angel10: and no kids....ever. <-- all planned that way  :deal:
My wife likes going with me on trips we would go on more if I feel comfortable with both of us on the bike in gravel. We said after the winter we will book a pillion training day. After that we'll see.

I do about 17000 - 20 000km a year. Thats nothing to what i've seen and heard standing at Donford where guys come in there that does thousands every year.I commute but I also take day trips often - esp since the 1200GS the wife and I would just go ride, stay over somewhere and ride back home. I did 2300 km in the first 5 days when I got my 800GS - did the run-in service 3 days after I got it. :D  12 months not even 1000km!?
Hell my WR250F did almost 500 km's in just under 3 weeks now and thats all quarry and local riding in the sand / 1 spoor 2 spoor.

Bikes is gemaak om te ry!  :ricky:

I haven't done 1000km the last 12 months.Thinking my 950 should be in the market soon too...   ???

Same here.
But I dont think I will sell her. Just wipe the dust off her every now and then.

You are mistaken.

family def big reason, but I honestly feel that our jobs require more and more, as well as social media - and too many options, to much to do at any given time.. things were simpler in the past. and guess what, there was more time to ride

Ironically, when the kids were small (pre-school), Swambo and I had much more time and opportunity to take a weekend or long weekend trip with the bike.  We could easily leave them with the Grandparents and off we go.

Once in school it is a whole different story with sport and homework over weekends, sport camps and events during holidays, etc.  It is actually sad to see how the kids are already getting conditioned for the rat race at school age. :-\

Most of the mileage I am clocking now is from commuting.  Not ideal but better than nothing.

I don't ride my bike during the week and still manage on average 400 kms a weekend. We all need our own space and time . If you spend all your time looking after family and no time looking after yourself you will wake up one day and be a miserable person . Get up early on a Sunday and have a great ride and still be home by 11 am .
It also helps if your wife rides Horses cause they take up a lot of time .
When my kids had sports events I went to them on the bike .

I know its easier said than done but take a leaf out those Golfer mates. They gone for whole day !!! .They normally come back pissed cause they lost their balls or something but they go back every week .

If you are keen on riding you will make the time! Mostly it's a loss of interest methinks.

Any "dogs" who don't have time to ride, can drop their bikes off by me. I'll gladly assist with putting some miles on the bikes.

I've done 4233km this year and yes I do commute. My aim is just to make sure that I do more km's exploring than commuting to work. Currently I'm on 1800km's commuting to 2433km's free riding...Lekker man
