Every now and again, we discover a really nice mountain pass. This week we drag you off to Limpopo Province and to the Marakele National Park to try out the sometimes intimidating Lenong Pass. Like Donkey's, Mount Paul and the Ben MacDhui passes, this one also terminates at the summit of the mountain at a Sentech tower, requiring a return leg down the same way.

Besides the scenery and interesting pass, you can also see the magnificent Cape Vultures soaring the thermals up the cliff faces as well as get the opportunity to see the Big 5 and numerous other game species. It is best to spend a weekend or longer here. Regrettably due to the presence of predators, no motorcycles, quads or open vehicles are allowed into the park.

The scenery is magnificent and the road itself (although tarred) is very narrow (single width) which equates into some very interesting manouvering when another vehicle approaches - especially for the vehicle with its wheels on the drop side - and there are no safety railings. If SWAMBO suffers from acrophobia, then give this one a miss, but for anyone who enjoys a truly great pass, better put this one on your bucket list. We have a 3 part video set covering the whole route on the link below:
