Yesterday our Boxer Ben was spat and bitten by a Mozambique Spitting Cobra.

He started vomiting shortly after and my wife raced him to the vet. Anti venom (R3500) and a night’s stay at the vet and he’s doing much better!

Do you have an above average volume of snakes, or is it just the area?

I grew up in the Eastern Cape and KZN, as kids we saw a fair amount of Puff Adders, but not a lot of “exotic” slightly more exotic snakes.

Orrrrrr are your dogs protective and ones that tend to go for snakes?

This summer has been hectic. Never had problems before now. Snake catcher has advised us to kill the cobra in question if we see it again

Our dogs seem to want to catch and eat anything that moves though...

Glad Ben is Ok, I have lost 2 Dogs due to Snakebite, the sight still haunts me to this Day.

At the coast for a couple of weeks and really starting to miss home now. Was dry and hot when we left, hoping to return to a green Lowveld in s few days

Back from a fantastic holiday in Noetzie. Nelspruit had quite a bit of rain since we left, which means I have a bit of gardening to do.....

Reminder to myself that a brush cutter can irritate certain flying, stinging  buggers

Close up, its actually very clear that it’s not a snake. Short and fat compared to a snake
