One thing about a forum is that you can get a thousand opinions but little evidence. Two years ago there was a thread about welding a cracked rim and at the time I had done exactly that: see

https://wilddog.net.za/forum/index.php?topic=135730.msg3344814#msg3344814

Now two years and 4356km later the new tyre you saw in  that thread is now worn flat and I have taken some pictures (below) of the weld done 2years ago while I'm changing the tyre. Now all I have to do is to put the tyre on the right way around!  Recently I called past Greg English. His son Mike is now doing enduro's and I noticed that his KTM 250 had a weld on the rim which was there when he'd bought it. He had just done an enduro with a flat tyre. He'd carried on to the finish  because he was using a tubliss system. The side walls of the tyre where torn to bits but the weld was still OK.
