Buffalo are much more aggressive than White Rhinos, I have been charged by Rhino on several occasions in the past, mostly in a vehicle in Umfolozi and Hluhluwe, they give up pretty quickly unlike a buffalo.

The guys should have turned back when they first spotted it, or at least observe it from a safe distance until it goes off the road. I did trails guide training and we faced a variety of charges and so forth, I dont want to mess with Buffalo, hippo or crocodiles. Lions and elephants can sort of be reasoned with, but those three are not the reasonable kind.

And as has been said before, that guy was not charging them seriously. He just wanted to get past. If he was serious they may very well have been dead.

It is a cool story to tell though, and it actually went about as well as it possibly could.

Also came across a buffalo in the road while going through Baviaans early this past Monday morning. We all stopped with some distance with our engines off. Eventually he moved back into the Bush and we were able to pass.
