Condition of gravel from Merweville to N1?
« on: April 21, 2017, 11:05:43 am »
Anyone done this recently? What is the condition of the road?

I have done Merweville up to Sutherland (Rammelkop pass) previously, but the gravel from Merweville to the N1 is unknown territory.

Do not want to be too brave, it is me and my wife (pillion) only

Merweville to N1 is tar or one of them is tar.
Cannot see if that road goes straight to Prince Albert Road?

No, that is not the tarred one. Tar is to the north.

Hence the question.

There is a road that runs east out of Mville towards the Leeu-Gamka-Frazerburg tar road. Not the big one, a smaller one that exits town past the Police station. Have lots of gates and quite narrow at some places. Joins the tar +- 35 km from Leeu-Gamka.

That road was in a good condition October last year. Should be perfect for pillion riding.

Some nice gravel roads out of Merweville to N1
Most of them easy riding and suitable for pillion, yet nice and undulating and scenic.
