OK, we all took some leave from work for Friday (except Skolla - his permanently on leave ...  ::) ) ...
Plan was to do a quick 2 day "kop-skoonmaker" - sleep in Heidelberg at the mighty Hotel, and get there with the longest route possible, and take another "longest route as possible" back the next day ... well, as usual everything didn't work out as planned !!!  :patch:

Yours truly; Werner and Skolla met-up at the usual place in George on Thursday morning, took tar to PetroSA, to meet up with Dawie at Mugg&Bean.
After some good coffee and jokes, we hit the dirt from "Kleinberg Co-op" to Herbertsdale. There we stopped at the "Mall", to buy some cold ones to enjoy a little bit later at the Gourits Drift on way to VanWyksdorp ... and also as per usual - we got entertained by Herbertsdale's own "mascot" ...  :lol8:

After "tea" - a lekka ride past VanWyksdorp to Ladismith - the road was littered with holiday 4x4's and DUST ...  :eek7:

In Ladismith we "enjoyed" some over-prized "faxed" Burgers at The Steers, with some entertainment again by their local "mascot", before heading towards Laingsburg. On the Anysberg road we made a left towards Montagu. Now this excellent piece of gravel with some mud holes here and there from the previous night's thunderstorms, appears to be the main highway for Adventure bikers from Cape Town - as we met with quite a few bikes en-route ...  :thumleft:

We went left at the above T towards Warmwaterberg and Ronnies Sex Shop. The shadows was getting long, and we still wanted to go from Ronnies across Gysmanshoek Pass to Heidelberg ...
And then, while enjoying a spirited ride on some great dirt - we got to the Sanbona Reserve gate ...  :xxbah: :xxbah:
The guard signed us all in - individually ... Ok, so far so good ! But no - we had to wait for an escort - the Lions will catch us!!!  :eek7: OK, how long will the escort take to get to the gate - no, just 15 minutes ...  ::) Well, to cut a long story short, the 15 min became 1,5 hours in the end !!! :xxbah: :xxbah: :xxbah: :xxbah: :xxbah: :xxbah: :xxbah: :xxbah: :xxbah: :xxbah: :xxbah: :xxbah:

Apparently the "bakkie" ran out of Diesel too!!!  ::) ::) ::)

When the "bakkie" finally arrived, the guard opened the gate - but he and the driver still had a peaceful little chat !!  :patch:
Well, the rebel in me took over - f%&k Sanbona; their Lions and their Escort!!! I charged through the gate leaving my "decent" companions behind with Sanbona's clowns, and made sure I kept at minimum double their speed limit of 50 ... Just stopped once for a quick pic below BelAir dam - as I knew I probably won't see it again!!

Not too far from the Eastern gate, they tried to stop me with a Landcruiser approaching in the opposite direction - complete with two other clowns standing in attack position on the back with R4 combat rifles!!!
Well, I ignored them and gave the Beemer horns towards the Eastern gate, where I told the guard a little "sop story" of an emergency - he promptly opened the gate to let me through - thank heavens !!!

I was in "racing" mode, and flew the last kms and past Warmwaterberg - ignoring and rather enjoying the very loose rocky road... Stopped at Ronnie's just in time for some beautiful sunset images and a bloody nice cold beer!!!  :bar: :bar:

My poor comrades eventually arrived their too - dusty, frustrated and extremely thirsty!!!

We were all relieved - just to be free again!!!
Needless to say - we supported old Ronnie's Bar well before leaving there in almost complete darkness ...
We had to alter the planned route - so we took the tar to Barrydale at a flippen brisk pace, then through the Tradouw Pass, and then left at Suurbraak's T towards Heidelberg...

Well we got to Heidelberg Hotel - where we were booked - just after 7pm ...
Just so great to settle after a long and a bit frustrating day .... The drinks; pool; laughter; music; great food and later great rooms made up for everything !!!  ;D

The local young people later  - well actually much later - taught me and Werner about "Jelly babies"  :eek7: :eek7: ... man it's good - till the next morning ...  :o :-[ :pottytrain5: :pottytrain5:

Near the western origin of the river we stopped for some scenic pictures ...
Unfortunately with the exit from the little "look-out koppie", Skolla lost his balance with the turn-around, and tumbled downhill - quite hard!!  :o :o
Fortunately nothing serious, just sore ribs and left wrist, and a broken flicker lens and front brake lever ...  :patch:

We continued via Suurbraak to Swellendam for fuel and thirst/shock relievers ...  :-\

We left a hot and busy Swellendam - aiming for Malgas Pontoon via the Napkysmouth route. Some "rock shandy's" saved us from dehydration at the famous Malgas Lodge ...
Then a peaceful cruise with the Pontoon on a rather busy Breede river.
