I'm gonna stay far away from these fekking 1290s.   I cannot even remotely afford one, so I'd rather just not know if I'm missing anything.   And i'll keep telling myself that I'm not

I like every angle on this bike except she's got a face only a mother could love.

I think that's probably similar to what the BMW cars were when they made some radical design changes - some love it from day 1 and others hate it, but after some time it grows on people

I personally love the new KTM headlight design and it would be a plus point if I was to upgrade

The Beagle BM's are still ugly - you dont buy a BM car for the looks

I was also thinking this. The Bangle mangle did not grow much on anyone. Especially 7 series.
But I like the looks of newer BMW's

I liked the 10 things list. Good thing they had the guys in shorts. they should have put dealers in shorts as well that said there is nothing wrong with heat dissipation on the 1190!

I have found Silbecor brilliant for burn wounds!

(it doesn't trouble myself on 1190 when wearing proper pants)

Manic will only be impressed when the Akropovic sticker stays attached to the exhaust.  ;)

all media reviews have been excellent and all owners on a European forum, that have had their bikes for a couple of weeks already, are very impressed - one has already done 7 000km

I'm sure you will also be happy

never a good idea to get to much of a hype on for a new bike, until you ride it long enough

Stunning bike, love reading about it and blue of jealousy ( the good type) but looking forward to congratulating the new owners and follow your impressions and adventures on this stunning bike!!
I had a word with another journo that attended the CT launch and he feels the 1090 is also 'spot on' and a great bike.
I am all eyes and ears!

Im not impressed no.

Its not a bad bike. Maybe I expected more?
Its the same as a 1190. With more electrics, fancy dash, yes it has bit more power, and bit more torque. Clutch is softer, gear changes with the shifter was smooth as butter. Space for your iPhone, bluetooth, keyless, cruise control and and and...

Can be the Knobblies, but I got a huge tank slapper under acceleration at about 150kph. Every time, not just once. On 180 the bike started to weave, it got worse, I opt out at 198. Was trying to see if the 202kph restriction is true, but did not have the balls to take it to 202. Again, yes it can be the aggressive tyre pattern I agree. Conti Trail Attack will see this bike rocket past the 240kph with ease, unrestrict it first  :imaposer:

All Im saying, this aint a ALL NEW 1290 Super R. This is 90% still 1190, and the extra 10% change.

I expected a Holy Mother fucking feeling yes this I want and I want it NOW. Again, Im use to my 1290 Super Duke, so maybe that is why the power did not impress me?

For the person coming off a 1200 GS this will feel like heaven.
If you use to a 1190, the tweaks and dash is nice  :pot:

I sold my 1190, to wait for this 1290. That was the Main reason I sold my 1190  :'(

All and all, the 1290 will still be a great bike. Im just reading people who had issues with the 1190, and want to go back to the 1290 now, thinking it was sorted, like the heat on legs, they will be the ones not so impressed. Guys who buy the 1290 for the first time, they are the okes that will RAVE about it.

Again, awesome bike!!! Just make sure why you buy it, that you dont be dissapointed.

every time that my 1290 has been in for a service, I was loaned an 1190 - if you ride them straight after each other, there is a massive difference

Manic & Team, you are going soft.......that tank slapper is an extra feature to make sure you don't feel asleep over 160 - that was supposed to be mentioned under point number 13. Go have some iron supplement and test it again - then tell us about that restricter.

Can be the Knobblies, but I got a huge tank slapper under acceleration at about 150kph. Every time, not just once.

Interesting. My partner rode his dad's new 1290 and his comment was exactly that: head-shake at 150 km/h when overtaking (i.e. under acceleration).

was that a 1290 S, R or T?

my T model is very stable all the way to 230, even under full acceleration and starts weaving a bit then, but no shakes - when I ride faster than say 170, I always put the damping in sport, to stiffen it up - never in comfort at higher speeds

I got a head shake on the 1290 S but the R felt solid as a rock. I got it up to 240 with knobbliest and it felt fine. There was still more to go. We also had an 1190 R and this thing is definitely one better. Gavin Morton, who is selling his 1190 for the 1290, was impressed as was GG. See the link below:

I saw a video of guy pushing a 1290 T to top - video seemed very stable all the way - bike picked up speed consistently and then just got stuck at 262km/h, which is probably 250 true speed and probably governed there
