There is an interesting thread over on the KLR Clan where a member mentioned that the bottom seal (for the steering head bearings) was fitted upside down. The first is a pic of the "before"-orientation and the second is a pic of the "after"-orientation.
Every pic I can find (including the one in the Clymer manual) on the net shows the seals to be in the upside-down orientation according to the picture below. The poster's claim does make sense to me - the seal will now actually seal off the assembly! Is it possible that Kawasaki has been assembling their motorcycles incorrectly all these years?
What is your take on this? Do you agree with the Clymer manual's orientation, or this orientation?
