SUSPENSION UPGRADES FOR THE 690
« on: May 06, 2017, 03:44:33 am »
Hi Guys, looking for some info.

With the 690 having been around for a few years now and as we all know that the suspension is not really the best, but the overall package really suits many of us 100%, as we do 80% dirt riding.

What has been the best upgrades that members have done to the KTM 690 to sort out this problem, especially the Forks.

I have an 2009 and many of my riding buddies have later models and everyone complained on a recient rough trip through Lesotho.

I see online that many offer upgrades and new internals, some really look the part, has anyone tried them and what are they really like??

if so, what was the difference and price ??

Info on any other suspension modfications that guys may have tried that really works and have made a diference to your bike would be welcomed?

Regards

It depends if you have the R (orange frame) or lower spec with black frame. Up to 2011 the forks are better. 2012 to 2013 not so good and 2014 even lower spec as far as i know. I had a 2011 and a 2013 and both of them had to be revalved to work. Back shock is fine standard if you weigh less than 90kg. Hope this helps. Just take the bike to martin peatzold and dont look back.

If you've got a bit of money to burn visit http://www.rally-raidproducts.co.uk - I had a 2011R, which wasn't too bad, but I find the forks in my brother's 2008, that he keeps on loving, virtually unrideable. Harsh as hell. If I loved the bike I'd seriously consider wrangling in a set of OC WP forks. But I'd also at least talk to Hilton Hayward in JHB before I did anything.

Talk to Hilton first.

I fitted the Omega Rally kit and the standard suspension was terrible.  I weighed myself fully kitted up as well as my luggage, removed the suspension and Hilton Hayward did the rest.  Installed it and rode two weeks through Kaokoland without making even one click adjustment. Extremely happy with the result.

2015 690 Front shocks were not great, after sending them to 2 different shock specialists and a heap of money later I put on KTM300 resprung forks  and now happy.450 would also work

I went with the 300mm travel RallyraidUK option as well.  Avoid if you are short...
